Coyoacán walking tour, get to know its hidden history
Get to know the emblematic history of Coyoacán and some of its most intriguing historical figures! We will start the tour at the Fonoteca Nacional, former home of the conqueror Pedro Alvarado, where you could appreciate the Andalusian and Moorish influence in the colonial architecture. We will continue the tour through Francisco Sosa Avenue, one of the most representative streets of Coyoacán with a pre-Hispanic layout. During the walk you will see ex-haciendas and emblematic houses of the Spanish conquerors and Mexican artists. We will stop at Plaza de Santa Catarina, a very representative plaza of colonial architecture where I will explain the role of the friars in the evangelization of Mexico. Then, we will continue to the central garden and the "fountain of the coyotes", there you will understand the significant role of this pre-Hispanic town in the process of the Conquest and colonization. We will conclude the tour in the "La Conchita" square in front of the church of the Immaculate Conception, which according to oral history was the chapel in the backyard of Malintzin's house. We will talk about the intriguing role of Malintzin, one of the most polarized characters in the history of Mexico. Come and learn about the history of Coyoacán, one of the most beautiful and influential neighborhoods in Mexico City.
