What you'll do

Xochimilco has been declared a World Cultural Heritage Site due to its historical and cultural richness. First we will visit the Xochimilco Center to get to know the sights of this old Mexico City neighborhood. We will see the main church built in the 16th century, we will go to visit the main market where you will see piñatas and various products, fruits and vegetables. We will try seasonal fruits. We will go to the flower market to see the beautiful colors of Xochimilco. We will eat at market (corn, squite or tamale). Then we will visit a typical pulqueria where we will try a thousand-year, pre-hispanic drink, with 4 degrees of alcohol, made with the fermented sap of a maguey.
Finally, we will take a relaxing trip in a private boat called "trajinera", we will go through some beautiful and quiet canals, during the boat trip you will be able to appreciate the fauna: ducks, herons and more. We will learn about agriculture and construction of the floating islands "Chinampas" that continue to be used for cultivation. We will go down to see a chinampa to get a close look at the flower and vegetable crops, we will also go to the replica island of dolls and hear the legends about ghosts in Xochimilco. (It is possible to navigate into the tourist canals instead of the ecological canals, in that case the Mariachi is not included, check availability)

Ambar is so knowledgeable and gave us a great tour. Her English especially was great and the historical facts she knew were very interesting. It was so nice to see her friends who are vendors all through town, we felt had a very local experience. Super sweet and personable. She brought a game to play on the trajinera also. Would recommend to everyone!

Ambar gave my friends and I an excellent tour around Xochimilco and she was very knowledgeable of the area. The food tour at the beginning was unexpected but we were also so happy to participate. We chose the biological preserve port and were excited to have a peaceful boat ride around the cannals. Would highly recommend for larger groups!

We absolutely loved our experience with Ambar! I think it was the best way to see the Xochimilco neighborhood. She is a born and raised local, so she knows the area backwards and forwards. The best way I can describe it that it felt just like when I visit friends and they show me around their neighborhoods. She was so welcoming to all of us! It was such a relaxing and fun trip on the boats, Ambar made sure we had the best experience, no stress at all from finding bathrooms, boarding the boats, having the full canal experience, playing games, and getting off. The whoe thing was seemless. And then touring through the markets was so much fun. She is friends with people who have stalls, so is made it easy and fun to stop by and hear them talk about their work. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who wants to see the area and just have a fun and relaxing afternoon.
