What happens when your ID is checked

Your security a top priority. We want you to be confident that people on Airbnb are who they say they are. One way we do that is by checking for a government ID. This could be a driver’s license, passport, identity card, or visa.

Some Hosts require government ID in order for guests to book their stay or experience. Your ID will never be shared with anyone else who uses Airbnb.

How IDs are checked

Before a guest completes their reservation, or a Host completes their listing, they’ll be asked to add a photo of their ID. Then we verify it. Sometimes we’ll ask the guest or Host to take a photo of themselves, which will be matched with the picture on their ID.

If it says ID checked for a guest or Host, it means this person has successfully added an ID. This helps us keep Airbnb secure, fight fraud, and more.
