Unique Colonial Home in Amish country near PSUGorgeous stone home replica of the 1725 John Chads house.
A 1/2 hour drive from Penn State's Beaver Stadium on University Park campus, this home is conveniently-located just 4 miles from the Route 322 Belleville/Reedsville exit.
Surrounded by Amish farms in "Big Valley," this home sits on 1-acre of mature landscaping with sheep grazing on one side and horses & ponies on the other. The quaint backyard is a peaceful, quiet retreat with stars ablaze after dark.
There is plenty of parking available on-site. The backyard is private and quaint - the only neighbors are Amish farms on all sides. "Big Valley" is a country escape with scenic back roads that are perfect for long bike rides. The area has many antique shops. From spring-autumn, the area hosts a large flea and farmer's market Tuesday evenings-Wednesday mornings. The home is also a short drive to many farms & farmers' markets where seasonal produce is available for purchase.
This property is not suitable for large parties or loud music. We ask that you please respect our Amish neighbors.
Please note that all of the staircases in this home are authentic 1725-style wooden, spiral-staircases. Therefore, this property is not conducive to anyone (such as the elderly or those needing special accommodations) who may have trouble navigating these staircases. Please be careful also with young children.
Due to liability concerns, we ask that you let us know in advance if you would like to have a fire in the bake house's authentic beehive oven, which can be used to make pizzas and bread, or a fire on the first floor of the home. We will provide the firewood and will want to assist with starting the fire. An extra charge will apply for this experience. (See our add-on experiences for more details.)
Due to a local ordinance, we may stay in the bake house; however, we will not interrupt with your use of the backyard. We can be available on-site as needed.
