The best time to consider houses in Bora-Bora is during November and April. Shoulder seasons offer warm weather while largely being free of rain. Some events to look out for include the Tahiti Pearl Regatta in May, a sailing race, between the islands of Raiatea, Bora-Bora, Huahine, and Taha'a, with participants coming from as far away as Hawaii to participate. Also, watch out for the Heiva I Bora-Bora Festival, the island’s largest festival, held in July or August. It is a celebration of life that showcases traditional Polynesian costumes, skills, and music, although it was formerly a ritual used to prepare for war. The Bora-Bora Liquid Festival in December is an athletic competition which features contestants competing in the lagoon and often accompanied by many beach celebrations.

Mount Otemanu

Mount Otemanu is one of two peaks remaining of the extinct volcano in the center of Bora-Bora. Rising almost 2,400 feet over the lagoon, a visit to the island isn’t complete without a trip to the top of this mountain to take in the sights. If hiking isn’t your thing, never fear — there are many ways to experience Mount Otemanu, from four-wheel drives and boat tours to guided helicopter rides or walking along the beach.

Matira Beach

One of Bora-Bora’s many breathtaking beaches, Matira Beach stands out for its coastal shops and eateries, incredible sunsets, and its sapphire blue water. Fun things to do during your time at the beach include snorkeling, sun-bathing on the crisp white sands, and wading across the shallows to Matira Point and the nearby barrier reef during low tide.

Stand-up paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboarding is one of Bora-Bora’s longest-running pastimes. Many businesses offer paddle-board rentals, and it’s a great way to explore the lagoons and shallow reefs of Bora-Bora while getting some exercise. The island’s waters are usually calm, perfect for beginner paddlers.
