Seattle’s original downtown is full of beautiful old buildings in Romanesque Revival style, underground tours that take you beneath the streets to see the remains of the city’s first buildings, and an ever-growing slate of hip shops and restaurants. Take an afternoon or more to explore Pioneer Square‘s ivy-covered buildings and pop into bars, boutiques, and hidden gems, like Waterfall Garden Park.

Frasier. Rumor has it that Cafe Nervosa was inspired by the cafe in Elliott Bay Books when it was located in Pioneer Square, so it tracks, kind of, that Frasier and Niles start their journey in Pioneer Square just southwest of Occidental Square—there are also a few references to a square outside the cafe, although Elliott Bay didn’t border Occidental. Viewers can see the old Waterfront Trolley making its way from the Pioneer Square stop; that line ceased operations in 2005, but the station is still there, although out of use (the First Hill Streetcar stops a block south at a more modern station).

Pioneer Square is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. Now home to the sports stadiums, it's full of fun bars and local history. Check out the underground tour a peek at Seattle's seedy underbelly or go to the bar at the top of Smith Tower for views and a speakeasy experience!
