Spacious, comfortable home, previously a farm, located in a pristine and stunning nature, 25 km w from Akureyri on Highway 1. Great hiking, skiing and trout fishing in mountain lakes. Newly renovated, well equipped kitchen. 2 spacious living rooms.

The space
Two spacious living rooms and a nice outdoor deck with a BBQ and a beautiful view up to the mountains. A barn which can be used for larger fests or simply for indoor playing.

Akureyri, Iceland

Hraunsvatn lake is a well know fishing lake and fishing there is free of charge. It has a healthy stock of large Ice age Arctic char which can be caught all year round (through ice during winter). There are not many places on earth where you find Arctic char like there. The best walking route up to the lake is from the parking at Hals.

Peak Hraundrangi (Steeple rock) towers over Hals. Hraundrangi is one of the most magnificent and mysterious peaks in Iceland. It is well seen from highway one. It was first climbed in 1956. A legend says that a treasure chest is to be found on the peak.

Hiking around the hills and mountains above Hals, and Hraunsvatn is delightful and enjoyable, but climbing the peak itself is challenging.

The famous romantic poet and naturalist Jonas Hallgrimsson grew up on Hraun, the next farm to Háls. His father drowned when fishing in the Hraunsvatn lake.
His famous poet Journey´s takes place in the surroundings of Háls. There is nothing more magnificent than the:
"star of love
over Steeple Rock"
bathed in the northern lights.

Another smaller lake, Þverbrekkuvatn (Thverbrekkuvatn) is privately owned by Hals, fishing there is also free for guests at Hals. Is is only within 30 minutes easy walking from the house up to the hills. A hike up to Þverbrekkuhnjúkur mountain is an interesting task. A guest book at the top can be signed to prove the accomplishment.
