A note about COVID-19 cleaning. We follow the CDC's recommendations for cleaning and sanitizing of surfaces. We are leaving 24-hours between bookings to ensure a high degree of safety.
There is something about this thatched cottage that brings out the romance. We have hosted many honeymooners, couples become engaged while here, and anniversary trips. It is lovely and cozy in an architecturally unique building near to the Welsh coast and the picturesque harbour town of Aberaeron.
Our situation provides guests with an excellent base to explore the many local attractions and the Coastal Path. By staying at Ffynnon Oer Isaf you will avoid the tourist crowds while being able to dip into the beach villages (or the water) as you please. We are located on a good road so guests can easily hop in their car for a quick explore. We offer wi-fi so you can sit on the sofa and plan your next adventure.
On top of all its practical advantages, the cottage itself will be one of the highlights of your trip. Ffynnon Oer Isaf is one of the best surviving examples of an eighteenth-century clom cottages in Wales. It is Grade II listed in recognition of its “outstanding architectural interest. “ The cottage was built around 1750, and although there have been alterations, the interior arrangement and many details are original to that time. The “crogloffts” are traditional sleeping platforms that were once common in West Wales, as were wickerwork chimneys such as the one seen here.
Apart from doing repair work, no one has built in clom in this area for well over a century. The walls are protected with a traditional limewash and the oak crucks and roof structure are all original and untouched since the eighteenth century.
Our gardens are lovely at any time of the year. Even in winter, there are over 20 different varieties of snowdrops. The front of the house is planted with a rose and herb garden.
We are dog friendly; however, our garden is not fully enclosed. Canine visitors adore the coastal path or exploring the countryside. Please let us know if you plan to bring a dog.
Bath towels, bed linens, and bathroom welcome pack are included.
The house is situated in a small hamlet of houses. We are near to the beaches of Ceredigion, Aberaeron (15 minutes), Llangranog (30 minutes) Lampeter, the Llanerchaeron estate, Aberystwyth (35 minutes). Paragliding and walking are popular in the area.
