Rose cottage is a traditional pre-famine cottage and century old farmhouse joined and brought up to date by an awarding winning architect in 2013. Sleeping 6 it offers space, comfort and views over Bantry Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The space
This is an architect designed renovation of two houses of over 100 and 200 years old respectively. The design is sympathetic but transforms the layout bringing it up to how people live today. A mix of modern and antique furnishings make it a unique property.

A huge kitchen-dining-living space allows everyone to sit together when cooking, eating or just socialising. A further living area with TV/DVD and another wood burning stove offers a cosy space to hunker down in stormy evenings. Two living spaces also make it easier for families to enjoy being together or apart.

Two double bedrooms with fabulous king size beds, a further bedroom with bunk beds and two bathrooms makes for comfortable and spacious accommodation for 6 people.

Where you’ll be

Adrigole, Cork, Ireland

The Beara peninsula is wild and rugged. Rocks, bogs, cliffs and of course the Wild Atlantic dominate (though there is a small and very safe beach about 5 minutes drive from the property). It really is a special place that escapes the crowds that tend to flock to its more well known peninsular neighbours - Sheeps head and the Ring of Kerry. Long may it stay that way.

The property feels remote, in the countryside with sea views. Even so it is less than 2km (~1 mile) from the nearest pub. A 10 minute drive away is Glengarriff - a small village with pubs, shops and restaurants. A further 15 minutes from Glengarriff is the town of Bantry where there is a greater variety. In the opposite direction about 20 minutes from the property is the town of Castletownbere - a working fishing town and the main town on the peninsula.

Originally from Cork city I left Ireland in the late '80s to work in London. Like a lot of the Irish diaspora I was drawn to the country and its heritage and about 10 years ago purchased Rose Cottage. Now with two small boys (to add to a grown up daughter) my wife and I spend much of the boys' school holidays there. Because we spend so much time there we refurbished the place so it would work for the four of us and guests that inevitably want to visit.

Of course living in London it means we won't be there to greet you. But our neighbour Breda has been looking after all the friends we've had to stay over the years.
