Walk up the steps under the indigenous and mystical Tanoak and into your idyllic getaway, curving around Coast Live Oak tree and settled under the shade of Redwoods. You'll feel as if you're up in the canopy while completely earthed into the landscape, surrounded by natural plaster walls and clean-line minimalist details.

The space
Tanoak Casita is tucked into our backyard, a forever work in progress stewardship of organic fruits, flowers and vegetables. You'll hear songbirds, (and our chickens), in the morning and crickets at night. We are located in Corralitos, a sleepy valley nestled between Mount Madonna and Monterey Bay. Enjoy a mellow, pastoral setting where you can still smell the sea on the morning fog. Fifteen minutes south of Santa Cruz, renowned for world-class waves and high vibes, and 90 minutes north of Big Sur, a vortex of dramatic cliffs, epic hiking, and wild history - we love it out here, and we hope you do, too.

Tanoak Casita is designed with sustainability, beauty, and serenity in mind. The bedroom features a queen-sized bed outfitted with linen sheets over an organic mattress topped with an eco-friend latex topper. Overseen by a luminous four-foot diameter round window, the bedroom flooring is recovered white oak planks. Natural limestone plaster walls soar up to a 14-foot apex with transom windows and skylights.

The bathroom is Saltillo tile floors, its warm tones reflected in a rosy Travertine stone sink and complemented by an oceanic blue shower stall. All fixtures are patinated brass, from the plumbing to the lighting.

A perfect place to tune out OR tune up, the Casita has strong wifi for working remotely at the breakfast bar or outside under the trees. Enjoy locally roasted coffee and organic teas in the morning out on the redwood deck before you plunge into your day's adventures!

We have nearby neighbors who can be heard from time to time talking or calling for their cats. While we have no control over our neighbor's noise, we ask that our guests be extremely mindful of volume, especially after 10pm.

Corralitos is a valley town in the south county of Santa Cruz. Just inland from the great Pacific, we tend to be 10 degrees warmer in the summer and rarely get the fog and wind of nearby La Selva. Excellent surfing, hiking and biking is all at your fingertips, just ask us for additional recommendations. Our quiet side street off Amesti is a great mix of cultures, ages and backgrounds. We're well aware it won't be long before this gem of a smalltown starts to change, so we're enjoying it while we can!

My wife and I live the valley of Corralitos. We love working on yard projects, finding time to be mellow, and enjoying the land we steward. We hope you enjoy your time in our most recent project, the Tanoak Casita, a little back house tucked in the trees.
