The space
The cabin has just had a complete makeover but retains its charm with its original hand dropped bush poles and unique shape. A cosy retreat for a couple with king sized bed, wood heater, indoor kitchenette with outdoor cooking facilities(double gas burners, fridge, saucepans, wok, frypan, kettle etc),bath and good flow hot shower in the one open space room. A set of king billy french doors open onto a deck with expansive views across the channel to the southern ranges (which are capped with snow in winter). And outdoor bathtub.
The cabin is next to our family home and the shed where John bakes , but has privacy screening and blinds so you can relax fully in this private setting. We live in a rural setting so you will occasionally hear the cows, bikes and chainsaws of the neighbouring farm.
Our property is fully off the grid - our power comes from solar and wind sources. If the weather has been dull and calm for two days you may hear the gentle strum of the diesel generator bringing our batteries back into safety.
Staying here is an experience in eco living. Your lights are 12 volts, but 240 v power points are in the room(so yes mobiles can be charged). Your hot water is instant gas with an inline pump bringing fresh rain water to you to bathe in and drink.
Heating is via a wood-burning fireplace. It will be set and ready to stick a match in , with plenty of wood available in your space.
The toilet is separate to the cabin, a short stroll up a pathway to a clean composting toilet.
We have a varied population of wildlife for visitors to enjoy. In the evenings with a spotlight you can see wallabies, possums and quolls. In the day time twitchers will be delighted with the population of sea eagles, wedgetail eagles, swift parrots and the peppermint forests make great habitat for the 40 spotted pardalote. On the foreshore you can find all manner of crabs and sea birds and other critters, and of course under the water there are a fabulous variety of fish and shell fish, seahorses and gardens of seaweeds to delight.

I’ve lived in tassie for nearly 30 years and on Bruny island for 16. So although not a local I’m a passionate import! I fell in love with the climate and wild beauty of Tasmania. I love bushwalking, gardening and mucking about with clay. It is my hope to share a little bit of off grid living with guests to inspire their own horizons to include a vision of a simpler earthy life.

During your stay

We have an active family and you will see us come and go, feel free to contact us via mobiles or grab us on the go with any queries. Apart from initial welcomes, we will not seek you out or have any interaction with you unless you initiate it.The exception of course is our dog Mikey who will presume that you want his affections - so please tell him to go home if he is hanging around or call us. Please note. He is still learning about cars. Please take care when you see Mikey. Please do not feed him or let him inside.

On the last friday of the month we host a community dinner from 6pm. This is an amazing opportunity to meet locals and eat great seasonal local food. We welcome you to join us on this night, however if you were hoping for a quiet romantic secluded escape perhaps another day of the month would be best!!
