The space
At Malabar Cove we are trying to keep a natural environment where guests can explore the little paths of our coconut grove by the beautiful Arabian Sea. The local people live by fishing and harvesting coconuts.

The accommodation is simple but spacious and comfortable with European style bathrooms and solar water heating.

At night the sky is as black as can be and the stars are a magnificent sight.

Malabar Cove Beach House sleeps eight persons in four guest rooms.

Three en-suite rooms with twin beds and ceiling fans.
One en-suite room with twin beds, ceiling fan and air-conditioning.

Three Guest Rooms lead from Hall on Ground Floor.
Also on Ground Floor:
Lounge and Dining Room
Large simple Kitchen and Store Rooms.

Stairs lead up to the Howdah Room, an en-suite Guest Room with a/c.
Also on Upper Floor: Roof Terrace with superb views over the Arabian Sea.

The simple kitchen is fully equipped for basic cooking.
Bottled gas hob - no oven.

Cafes and Hotel Restaurants are a short drive away.

Yoga and Ayurveda can be arranged.
Tuition in Kalarippayattu can be arranged. Kalaripayattu is the disciplined and spiritual Martial Arts of Kerala.

Malabar Cove is a perfect hideaway. A river sweeps round into the rocky cove where the Arabian Sea is busy each day with local fishermen in their colourful boats.

There is a pretty little beach backed by a rocky hill which years ago used to house a fort.

Within Malabar Cove, village life goes on. Fishermen walk down to the sea with their nets, coconuts are harvested and ladies bash washing on their ‘house rocks’ – guests can do this too – though we do have a laundry service!

The Beach House is close to the famous Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach.
It is possible to quickly reach the Drive-in Beach by walking through the shallow river - approximately knee deep on an adult. Guest can also walk a longer way across a bridge.
It is great fun to take a drive along the four kilometre Drive-in Beach, skimming the waves.

Help is available for arranging tours of Kerala. Lots of interesting places to explore. A car with driver can be arranged. Local cafes and hotel dining are within easy reach. Some big hotels have swimming pools which guests can pay to use.

Nearest airports: Calicut/Kozhikode - two to three hours by car - depends on number of stops to explore!
The newly constructed Kannur Airport is due to open soon, reducing airport transfer to approximately one hour.

Nearest Railway Stations: Kannur (north) and Tellicherry (south) - both approximately twenty-five minutes by car. Transfers can be arranged.

Malabar Cove Beach House is set in a Coconut Grove on the shores of the Arabian Sea in North Kerala. It is a perfect hideaway.

Malabar Cove Beach House is simplicity with home comforts.
Outside, village life goes on. Fishermen go down to the sea each day with their nets and colourful boats. Coconuts are harvested. Ladies bash washing on their 'house rocks'. Guests can do this too - though we do have a laundry service.

Inside the Beach House, guests can hide away with a book, listen to music and relax in a bygone age of pre-internet.
Guests must accept the occasional power cut. The house will usually be notified that a power cut is due but sometimes the electricity can be cut without warning.
Yoga can be arranged. Tuition in Kalaripayattu (Kerala Martial Arts) can be arranged.

Tours of Kerala can be planned.

It is recommended that guests experience a local back-water trip with a visit to a Children's School of Kerala Dance and Arts.

A MUST DO: Take a drive on the famous Drive-in Beach of Muzhappilangad. The beach is four kilometres long. It is great fun to drive along, skimming the waves. Sundays can get very busy with Indian people who travel there for a family day out.

This guest accommodation is managed by Mr Suresh Nair, a Keralite family man with schoolteacher wife and two children. He is responsible for the condition of the guest accommodation and the comfort of guests using it.

Initial funding came from me Lynne Haywood in UK. It was my dream but I am no longer able to visit Kerala. Therefore, I take no part in the maintenance and administration of the guest accommodation other than via AIRbnb where I can answer any questions you might wish to ask about the accommodation, the surrounding area and generally about India.

During my many visits to India, I found it enticing, colourful, noisy, messy yet beautiful, relaxing yet very tiring, exhilarating yet frustrating. It is an experience that always leaves foreign guests with stories to tell back home!
