Where you’ll be

Bellingham, England, United Kingdom

There are many walks and cycle paths to discover!
Our favourite is one up to the waterfall across 5 bridges called Hareshaw Linn. (Turn right outside of the archway, and then left after the bridge – crossing the road, follow the river and then you’ll see the track to follow).
Also, if you turn right out of the arch but this time take a right after the bridge, then cross the little foot bridge, you can walk alongside the river. This can take you either side of the river but if you follow the signs to the North Riverside Walk it will take you along the river to the play park. Handy if you have children as they can walk to the park without going near the road.

Kielder waters has an awful lot to do! Water sports, swimming pool, cafés, cycling, walking, play parks, mazes and so on.
Bellingham has a Heritage Centre up next to the Carriages Tea Room that is worth a visit to learn about the history of the local area. Open most days 10am-4pm, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Big supermarkets, markets, clothes shops etc can be found in Hexham, about half an hour’s drive away.
Various Hadrian Wall sites are easily accessible from Bellingham to the south towards Hexham but run from West to East all along so plenty of opportunity to take in some Roman history.

Haltwhistle has a leisure pool with slide and three heated outside pools. There is also a pool at Kielder - you need to book by ringing or pop to their reception to book.

Places to eat/drink
Our favourite is the Fountain Cottage Cafe. Just across the road from the coop and to the right a few hundred yards.
The Boe Rigg is only a 5-minute drive (towards Kielder) and does exceptional food! If you go in the day, it too has lovely countryside and a river to walk along.
The bakery is good for a snack or treat and there is also a butcher’s just along from the bakery.
There are several cafes (including Rocky Road) and tea shops (including Carriages Tea Room) in the village too.

The coop is great for all those little things you might have forgotten.

Take away – There is a Chinese near the bakery called Happy Valleyand on a Tuesday the Fish n Chip van stops in the village too, pre-order food - the menu is on the noticeboard just outside Happy Valley Chinese Take away.
