The villa is surrounded by hills in the distance and is nestled in a small but beautiful garden dotted with fruit and flowering trees. And a terrace garden that facilitates an unhindered view of beautiful sunsets!

Idyllic location far from the traffic and mayhem of Chennai and Chengalpattu and yet close to major and must-see sights. Good place to get together with family and friends and explore the local village, lake and lagoon, and take day trips to popular sightseeing spots.

The space
There's a master bedroom on the first floor with an ensuite bathroom and a fairly big balcony with park benches with a view of the hills. There are two other bedrooms have bathrooms in the hallways. All bedrooms have queen sized beds and an additional queen size mattress is available for additional guests.

The villa is located just past a quiet village - Chettipunyam - in Chengalpattu District. The area has a fairly large lake and a lagoon, with small hills and is an ideal getaway from the chaos of city life!

Major sightseeing destinations are within a few hours' drive so you can easily make day trips and see many interesting and must-see sights of southern India. Here's a list of places you can visit:

Chettipunyam Lagoon: 1 km (5 min drive).
A beautiful rainwater lagoon where you can see the locals dive off cliffs into its green-blue waters and try to swim across to the distant shore! Good place to just chill and 'water watch'!

Chettipunyam Lake: 1.6 km (5 min drive)
A large serene lake where you may see a local catching fish or crabs! The sky view is limitless over the lake.

Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo): 21.7 km (30 min drive) Open: 9 am to 5 pm. Tuesdays Closed.
Arignar Anna Zoological Park is the largest zoo in India and is spread over 1,490 acres. You can see all types of wild animals - including tigers and lions - roam free in natural settings. You can enjoy strolling through the zoo or you can take the mini train ride.

Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary: 37.3 km (1 hour drive)
Vedanthangal is the oldest water bird sanctuary in India and is home to several migratory birds from all over the world. You could easily spot several water birds like the pintail or grey wagtail or the blue winged teal. To see a mind boggling variety of migratory birds, visit the sanctuary between Oct-March.

Mahabalipuram: 38.5 km (1 hour drive)
Mahabalipuram is famous for its monuments and temples built by the Pallava dynasty in the 7th & 8th centuries. This small town is also dotted with several multi-cuisine restaurants and you can shop for granite handicrafts.

Crocodile Bank: 44.3 km (1 hour 15 min drive) Open: 9 am to 5 pm.
The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust and Centre for Herpetology is a reptile zoo and herpetology research station. In addition to the crocs, you can see the Big 4 (cobra, krait, saw scaled viper, and russell's viper) and attend the venom extraction shows.

Muthukaadu Boating: 47.1 km (1 hour 15 min drive) All Days - 9.30 am to 6 pm.
Muttukadu boat house is a water sport facility on the East Coast Road that offers rowing, wind surfing, water skiing, and speedboat riding.

Dakshina Chitra Museum: 49 km (1 hour 15 min drive) Open: 10 am to 6 pm. Tuesdays Closed.
DakshinaChitra is a living-history museum, dedicated to South Indian heritage and culture.

Auroville: 109.9 km (2 hours drive)
Auroville was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa and designed by architect Roger Anger. Auroville strives to be a universal town where men and women of all countries can live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity.

Puducherry: 113.7 km (2 hours drive)
Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is a town with a beautiful promenade that runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues . Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial. Throughout the year. Ideal months: Oct - March.

And Chennai City, with its well-connected international airport, bus and railway stations, is just over an hour's drive away. The city boasts of the second largest beach in the world - The Marina, and several smaller beaches, a large museum, tons of shopping malls and movie theatres, cathedrals, fancy restaurants and pubs.

Although I will not be available in person, my caretaker works in the colony and lives in the nearby village and can be contacted from 9 am to 6 pm.
