Our fully self-contained suite is ideal for the beautiful walks nearby. Great lake and orchard views from its patio and shared deck. It's clean, modern, private, and has all one might want for a great Waikaremoana holiday, including a host next-door.

1 night stays are made available 30 days prior. Peak season, Dec 18 to March 31, books out early due to very high demand and a low supply of only 2 homes. Book 2+ nights for lower rates.

The space
The Tuai Suite is fully self-contained and private with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living area, entrance, carport, and patio with a view of Lake Whakamarino. The suite is clean with modern amenities, soundproofing, and has just about everything one might need for a great getaway, including a happy host on the other side of the house.

Te Urewera Park is just 1 km away and we are approximately 1 hour of winding road away from the small town of Wairoa. Napier and Gisborne are about 2 hours drive.

The full kitchen is stocked with very basic complimentary self-catering breakfast food items (please see photo). Bring your own if you have dietary restrictions. You might also find some fruit in the orchard to add to your breakfast. Evening meals might also be available in the village; details will be sent upon booking confirmation in your Airbnb itinerary.

Information about Waikaremoana, Urewera National Park, Hawke's Bay is available from AA Travel's New Zealand website. AA Travel has listed Waikaremoana on its 101 Must-Do's for Kiwis, so why not book a Waikaremoana getaway today and scratch it off the list.

Short walks are a great alternative to the 3 day 'Great Walk'; tramp less, see and do more. If it's the views, beaches, trees, falls and other Waikaremoana experiences you're after, and can live without ticking the box next to 'Great Walk', then why not spend 3 nights at the Tuai Suite in comfort instead of 1 and venture forth on Waikaremoana's amazing short walks. You can choose from 30 minute to full day walks. I'm here, walk these trails regularly, and happy to help you choose the best to suit you when you arrive. Suppose there's no reason you can't hike the 'Great Walk' as well, although I'm the only one I know of who has... dunt dunt dunt dah!

May those who venture find the good they seek, wherever they look - my motto for 2015.

The photo on the left is me as the happy conqueror of Panekire Bluff, and a few hours later the Waikaremoana Great Walk; 2.5 days walking from the Tuai Suite and back. Very sore but thrilled to get the pack off my back, and the walk off my bucket list.

Still on my local bucket list:
1. Kayak to, and camp on the remote Waikaremoana beaches.
2. Boulder scramble the shore from Onepoto to Waiopaoa Beach.
3. Kite surf out of Rosie's Bay.
4. The other 8 Great Walks in NZ.

These days I'm getting out the back door as often as I can to some of my favorite and secret places here. Into boulder scrambling, fishing, swimming, and soaking up the sun on the secluded beaches. I'm very happy to share my local knowledge and time, should you choose. Please see the 'Guest Interaction' section of my listing for more info.

My life's global road map so far: Italy, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand; locally here in NZ: Nelson, Bay of Islands, Waikaremoana.

Some of the hats I've worn in the past: skipper, primary school teacher, husband, business analyst, programmer, web designer & seo, and currently just a host in middle earth. Yes! I make a living as a full time host. Can you believe it? Me so lucky :-)

I do miss a few things being so remote: social sports, sailing, dining out for two and going to the movies. But I can't complain as I get a buzz from kayaking, sharing the special places here with others, my random orchard I call 'Eden', and the beauty of God's creation the 'Sea of Rippling Waters'.

I don't have an online profile by choice so becoming "Airbnb trust verified" will be a stretch. Best you web search my reviews if you need that level of reassurance. I've been hosting at The Tuai Suite since 2004 so there's a bit out there to read.
