An "Earthly Paradise," we think so! Our custom built log home sits on a high bluff overlooking the mighty Copper River, with a jaw-dropping view of the Wrangell Mtns. Our 2 bedroom log home is an excellent place to base your Alaskan adventure.

The space
You'll get the whole house, 3 acres of privacy, an amazing view, hammock on the bluff and all the amenities you need. The house was custom built by us, and has a very open floor plan. The master bedroom faces the mountains and the stunning view! Did we already mention that? The furniture is all brand new, and the decor is totally Alaskan. You will be off the beaten path, but within striking distance of much of the greatness Alaska has to offer!

You'll have tv and wi-fi, cell phone towers are near-by. There is river rafting and king salmon fishing within minutes on the Gulkana and Klutina Rivers. Just down the road is the best restaurant in the Copper Basin, the historic Carriage House. You will be on the door step of Wrangell St. Elias National Park, the largest park in the nation. We can hook you up with local deals and incredible flightseeing!

Where you’ll be

Gakona, Alaska, United States

Gakona was one of the original stops along the historic Valdez Trail. The Gakona Roadhouse is just down the road (also a great place to stay). Travelers used to dock in Valdez and make their way north to gold via dog sled in winter. Road houses were 15 to 20 miles apart and very few of them still exist. There is a rich history in the Copper Basin. Gakona lacks the glitz of some of the other road system tourist areas, but is rich with spectacular views, wonderful people, and many outdoor activities.

My husband and I met in South America, I moved to Alaska in 1994 and our adventures have continued to this day. We built this place while living in a tent on the property in 1999. We got married (on the property) during the summer of construction and lived here for 4 years. We moved across the state for work in an even more remote place, but our hearts still live here! We maintain close relationships with the great folks in Gakona! We have never rented this to tourists before, but as travelers and adventurers ourselves, we know this is an outstanding place to base your Alaskan adventures from! The Denali Highway, Wrangell St. Elias National park, McCarthy, and Valdez are all destinations you can reach while staying at our place.
