Climb the stairs of the breakwater from the street (Íragerði) for a better view of the lava skerries. Walk the wall, or the streets, towards the church and harbour beneath it, and along the beach from there.

Where you’ll be

Íragerði 12, Stokkseyri, Iceland

Stokkseyri is a village of 500 inhabitants, founded (as a ranch) more than 1000 years ago. It is located on the edge of 25 cubic kilometres of lava, over 140 kilometres long. The lava was stopped on this point by the ocean around 6700 B.C. and formed the beautiful skerries stretching 300 meters offshore.

In the village, you will find a replica of an 18th-century fishing-hut (Þuríðarbúð) and an old church with an almost 1000-year-old graveyard.

Your host, Heba, is a potter by trade and runs a ceramic workshop in the big red building "Menningarverstöðin" at the harbour (formerly a freezing plant) with a few other artists and museums.

Further on, behind the red building is the most romantic, very popular lobster restaurant (Fjöruborðið).

Opposite the restaurant is a tourist information house "Gimli", and on the ground floor is a shop/gallery with local souvenirs.

In October 2014, I and my husband Kristján established "Guesthouse Heba", in our home at Íragerði 12, 825 Stokkseyri, Iceland.

Our four rooms and two shared bathrooms are offered to all guests 12 years old and older.
We’re a LGBTQ+ friendly guesthouse.

In the village (at Hafnargata 9) we also operate "Gallery Heba"; a little pottery offering clay art as well as ceramics courses.

Heba is my artists name as well as the nickname from childhood - my full name is Herborg Auðunsdóttir. My husband is Kristján Geir Arnþórsson, a retired IT professional, specialised in quality and security.
