This is a gorgeous little hut built in the top corner of a hay barn, but has the feeling of a comfortable treehouse. It is located in a peaceful rural setting overlooking a field. It is quite near other buildings in which we live, but it is totally private.
Access requires climbing two short flights of sturdy steps which bring you on to its balcony
Kilkenny city is a handy 20 minute drive away, but a car is needed as there is no public transport. A perfect place to retreat to.

The space
We are very proud of having created this hut which our son has named ‘Crows Nest’. We often stay there ourselves because the atmosphere of comfort paired with being in a natural environment is so intoxicating. Lie in bed and gaze up at the trees through the roof window or curl up with a book on the sofa while keeping an eye out for red squirrels, pine marten, garden birds and birds of prey in the field.
On a summer evening the balcony is a lovely romantic spot to sit out and enjoy a drink or meal. In winter the underfloor heating means it is always cosy if the rain starts to fall.

The hut is at the bottom of a long stoney lane, where we live on our small farm and we grow much of our own food. A large part of the farm is planted with broadleaf trees, primarily Oak. It is a rural area which means the roads are quiet to walk on. The nearest shop is 10 mins drive away, but a little bit further takes you to Kilkenny or Carlow the other way.
