The space
Our houseboat is a truly fantastic place to spend a few days in London.
Our great St Alexander has two main entrance doors off the dock leading into the Captains Cabin, from which there is a ladder down to the master bedroom, equipped with a double bed (sleeps 2) solid teak side tables, under bed storage drawers and hanging wardrobes x 2, 42 inch flatscreen TV, floor standing fan, opening windows, bedside lamp, modern ceiling spotlights, memory foam mattress, down duvet and pillows, and full Egyptian cotton linen.
Off the master bedroom is the only onboard bathroom with a WC and handbasin plush vanity. Back up the ladder through the Captains Cabin is the spacious lounge, with a surprisingly stylish clic clac folding sleeper sofabed (sleeps 1) along with side tables and ottoman with inbuilt storage. Beyond this area a few steps lead to the inviting dining area, crafted of solid polished teal, this area is beautiful to sit on the cream leather benches soaking up the atmosphere of the surrounding stunning St Katherine’s docks, all the windows open up to let the river breeze in while you enjoy a drink or meal with friends at the table seating up to 8 guests. Come bedtime the table drops to form a platform for the comfortable memory foam mattress equipped with hypoallergenic like down duvet and heavenly pillows (sleeps 2). Down a further ladder is a fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, coffee machine, fridge with icebox, dining ware to serve 8 guests, induction hob and washing machine.
As well as having the WC and washbasin bathroom onboard, there are also very clean floating washroom facilities available close by on the dock and also further ones in the main marina building. These are kept stringently clean by the management company and accessed using exclusive key fobs, as are the other marina facilities.
St Alexander is a heritage boat of historical significance, an Admiralty Launch, built in 1945, she was hung on the side of larger warships and one of her main duties was to transport cargo and troops between ships while at sea. She was originally propelled by steam and still maintains her original steam funnel feature through the main living space.
Due to the age of our grand old dame houseboat, we do not allow guests to take her out sailing on the Thames while staying aboard.
