Our forest home is located in the east of the Netherlands (Western Achterhoek), just over an hour's drive from Amsterdam. Family house in private forest. For 4 (up to 6) people. With a fireplace, plenty of space and privacy.

The space
On the border of two provinces: Gelderland and Overijssel, near the city of Deventer, is this family house. At just over an hour's drive from Amsterdam. Freely in our own forest.

The interior has a "Ralph Lauren lodge” feel, with a nod to the 70s. On the ground floor a spacious living / dining room with fireplace (indoor and outdoor) and a open kitchen with stove, fridge, dishwasher, etcetera. In the hallway is a toilet and the laundry room with washing machine.
The house is suitable for 4 (up to 6) people. On the 1st floor are two bedrooms, one with 1x double bed and one with 2x single bed. And... the fabulous retro bathroom: the green basin and brown tiles! Including toilet.
In the basement a bedroom with 2x single bed. The basement can be a somewhat chilly.
The house is heated by central heating. Around the house a large garden with grass and a patio with plenty of sunshine. Beautiful rhododendrons, blue hydrangeas and of course the forest.

Still good to know: Relatively close to the house is a railway line where 4 x per hour (not at night) a train comes along. Depending on the wind you can hear it but it is not annoying.

Where you’ll be

Epse, Gelderland, Netherlands

The forest house is located in a so-called bocage landscape, an open landscape with varied nature, unpaved roads where it is great to walk.

There are plenty of things to do in the area. Nearby is Gorssel, a rich village with beautiful villas, shops, restaurants, the brand new museum MORE, the Museum for Modern Realistic Art, AND a lovely outdoor public pool!

A few kilometers away is Deventer, this old mediaeval Hansa Town along the river IJsel. (The Hanze Trade empire stretched from Novgorod in Russia to Lisbon in Portugal)
Deventer is one of the five oldest cities in the Netherlands. The center of the town is formed by the Brink, an elongated square bordered by trees, terraces, and cafés. Famous are the Deventer Book market and the Dickens Festival. The Book Fair will be held on the first Sunday of August, it is the largest book market in Europe. During the Dickens Festival is the old town largely decorated in 19th century style and is populated by characters from the tales of Charles Dickens.

10 kilometers to the other side is Zutphen, another mediaeval Hansa Town. Also a great shopping city with many lovely cafes, terraces and restaurants.

Within walking distance (3.5 km) is Restaurant "De Zevensprong" in the middle of the forest with typical Dutch Crepes, clams but also steaks and fries (and a more serious menu-card).
It has a funny old-fashioned playground and miniature golf course. Near "De Zevensprong" is also a Go-Kart Track which is great fun for kids.

In the village of Joppe you find a deer farm.

Also relatively close by: The Kröller-Müller Museum, De Hoge Veluwe, Apenheul, the Julianatoren, Radio Kootwijk and the Loo Palace.
