Where you’ll be

Blaxhall, England, United Kingdom

This part of East Anglia is one of the sunniest parts of the country and promises a perfect alfresco break.

Blaxhall Village Pub, The Ship Inn is a few minutes walk through the village with well-kept local beers and choice of good pub food and live music. There is seasonal garden produce available in the village. There are many superb restaurants and pubs a short drive away.

Ship cottages is the ideal base for walking, birdwatching, cycling and enjoying the coastal countryside, estuaries, villages and towns. Tunstall Forest, Blaxhall Common and the River Alde are on your doorstep, ideal for walking and enjoying the abundant wildlife. We are blessed with some great cycling routes on quiet lanes and bridleways and the popular Tunstall Forest Viking Trail for MTB enthusiasts. There are also various trails in nearby Rendlesham Forest.

Some of Suffolk’s finest coastal heaths, villages and riverside countryside is on your doorstep. Spend your days exploring the the Suffolk 'peninsula' before heading back to enjoy a spot of dining alfresco in the enclosed garden or if you don't fancy cooking you have the choice of the Blaxhall Ship Inn or the many welcoming restaurants and pubs close by.

Snape is the neighbouring village (5minute drive) with its riverside maltings now a thriving collection of independent shops, café, art and craft galleries, and the world leading centre for music, set against a breath-taking backdrop of reeds, water and Suffolk skies. There are some lovely walks along the River Alde, starting and finishing at Snape. Iken Cliff is down river from Snape and a pleasant evening walk from the carpark, along the estuary to the historic Iken Church. Canoe and paddle board hire is also available here.

The bustling coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Woodbridge are only a short drive away. Orford Quay, with its Castle and Orford Ness, cafes and pubs is a popular local destination and Bawdsey Quay, located at the mouth of the River Deben, with tea room and famous Bawdsey Manor (birth place of the radar). This is one of the best places to watch the sun go down.

Other attractions include Thorpeness, RSPB Minsmere, Southwold with its sandy beach, lighthouse and harbour, Walberswick, National Trust's Sutton Hoo (on which the Netflix film ‘The Dig’ was based) and the atmospheric Shingle Street where the River Alde flows into the North Sea.
