Located just 20-25 minutes from the Ark Encounter & an hour from many of the area's greatest tourist spots, you'll love staying in our Charis Cabin. INSIDE enjoy around 760 sq ft of space with 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, full bath and a washer/dryer. OUTSIDE the fun just keeps going with 84 acres filled with hiking trails, a stocked fishing lake, a fire pit & outdoor area with a grill and a covered porch with a beautiful sunset. No TV or Wi-Fi. Limited cell service. Enjoy an unplugged getaway.

The space
The Charis Cabin was custom built by a local Kentucky Amish family. We worked with them log by log to design every part of our beautiful cabin. Lots of love has been put into the walls with our motivation being to have a weekend getaway for our family so we could drag our kids off screens every so often. We LOVE sharing the Charis Cabin with other families who want a clean and comfortable place to relax and unwind.

What to expect when you stay in the Charis Cabin:

Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen for family meals complete with range, oven and microwave. A full size refrigerator with filtered water and a generous sink for washing up after dinner. A sizable island with lots our counter-space for family mealtime.

The cabin has a full bathroom with tub/shower combo, toilet and vanity sink. We added a 30 gallon water heater but if you travel with the max occupancy you may want to space out those showers. We keep large bottles of shampoo and body wash in the shower for guests who need it. And provide towels, washcloths and hand towels.

In the main room, you'll find a living room space with sofas, a large 5 ft island with stools that is great for the grown ups to enjoy a meal and small dining area that is great for the kids.

Our cabin has 2 bedrooms. One side of the cabin has a Master bedroom with 2 queen beds. A second bedroom on the other side of the cabin has 2 twin bunks.

There is a small loft area above the master bedroom. I've filled it with toys for the kids. They will LOVE hanging in the loft and adults will love being able to sit and relax below without the kids being under foot. We also keep two Coleman self inflating camp mats for kids to camp out in the loft. We do request families bring their own sleeping bags & pillows for these as we can not accommodate laundering sleeping bags. Kids LOVE indoor "camping" in the loft! It's like their own little fort area!!

Our cabin does have AC and heat. Both bedrooms have mini-split units in them and the ceiling fans in the main room keep the cabin very comfortable.

Outside, enjoy the 48' covered front porch in the front. The cabin sits about 50 yards off the road that is a loop and the only traffic are local neighbors during their commute. The view from the porch is beautiful and relaxing. In the back, enjoy a patio with a gas grill, picnic table and outdoor space for a camp fire. Fire pit and fire wood included. Pack your own lighter! You'll find plenty of camping chairs in the deck box to use outside during your stay. Don't forget the bug repellent! The cabin also has 20 acres of woods behind it with hiking paths. They are rough so bring some good hiking shoes! And keep your head's up for wildlife. You can find wild turkey, tons of squirrels and lots of deer! The cabin is located in the deer capital of Kentucky.

Our 20 acres is adjacent to another 64 acres owned by our family and you are welcome to explore and enjoy all 84 acres during your stay.

*** Be sure to read through our house rules before requesting a booking to make sure we are a good fit for your family. ***

When you stay here, you will be welcomed as extended family. I try to stop by whenever possible just to welcome you and make sure you have everything you need. The Charis Cabin is part of a larger family farm totally 84 acres and we will need to be on the grounds from time to time farm maintenance. (I.E. Access the farm trash cans at the end of the drive way or sometimes mow the fields around the cabin) We will always respect your privacy and I will try to give you a head's up if we need to be around outside. If you need us not to do that during your stay, please let us know before you arrive. (We never enter a cabin while guests are with us without an invite, but sometimes need to be outside.)

**NOTE about the kitchen- Our kitchen has an 8 qt Instant Pot, a 6 qt Crock Pot, a blender, an electric skillet, a toaster, and all the utensils, bakeware and cookware you need to make any level of culinary delight. Our cleaning team will provide a starter roll of paper towels for you. If you need more, please add that to your grocery list**

**NOTE about the kid's bunk room- We have a bookshelf with plenty of board games and puzzles. Please be kind and return all the pieces!**

**NOTE about the bathroom- Our cabin is on a septic system. We will stock the cabin with plenty of septic-safe toilet paper for you to use during your stay.**

**NOTE about the loft- Littles can access the loft with the ladder. We ask that parents keep an eye on kids as they climb. For safety, please no jumping off the loft. And for the comfort of future guests please have kids return toys to their proper storage. You'll find lots of Legos, TinkerToys, Lincoln Logs and more!!**

**NOTE about cell service- Cell phone service is limited at the cabin. The cabin sits in a dip on the farm and most cell phones will have trouble finding a decent signal. There are plenty of places nearby where a cell phone works great. It just takes a hike up the road or drive up the hill. **

**NOTE: This is NOT a party cottage. We welcome families of up to 10 and request that this is Mom/Dad, kids and maybe grandparents or aunts/uncles. We welcome smaller families to share the rental with another small family. Please feel free to inquire if you have any questions. We frown upon guests requesting a booking with large groups of adults. If you have a ladies Bible study or small group wanting a place near the Ark, please message me to inquire.

**NOTE: We do have two security cameras on the lot. One watches the porch and front door. The other watches the driveway. This is to protect the property when we are not around.**

PET RULES: For families wanting to being a pet, we do allow pets for an extra cleaning fee. This is limited to healthy and fully vaccinated dogs under 45 lbs. Pets must be kenneled when guests are not with them. For pet safety we do not provide the kennel. We do expect all potty breaks to be cleaned up quickly and appropriately. We suggest dogs be leashed when outside if they are not obedient to voice commands. We are not responsible for lost pets who get a taste of farm freedom during a stay. Guests assumes all responsibility for items damaged by the pet during their stay. There will be a minimum $150 free charged for any damage during a stay when pet owners are not taking care of their animal. Overall, we trust pet owners to be responsible with their beloved family members and welcome them to be part of the family memories made at our place.
Please be sure to read through all our house rules before requesting your stay! Not every property is a great fit for every guest. And we like to make sure our guests are not disappointed when they stay with us.

I manage the property for our family farm, Siloam Valley. Our family has long used the farm as a place of spiritual retreat, discipleship and renewal. In 2019 we added the Gopher Wood Getaway cabin specifically as a haven and getaway for families visiting the Ark Encounter. It's a great place to stay if you want a quiet and unplugged getaway for your trip. in 2021 we added our 2 bedroom Charis Cabin. We look forward to hosting you and making your stay as fabulous as possible.
