Welcome to The Woodsy Retreat, your vacation home where nature takes center stage.

Inside our secluded retreat, you’ll find a mountain-inspired living room, a rec room with a den and games, and a gourmet kitchen that may make your jaw drop. Our two stone fireplaces will make you feel right at home – just like the magic of the woods around you.

The space
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE LOCATION
The Woodsy Retreat is tucked away on 3 acres in the mountain community of Black Forest. Situated among towering pine trees and prairie grasses, Black Forest is only a 25-minute drive to downtown Colorado Springs and about an hour away from Denver.

Hiking and biking trails are a stone’s throw away, and there is much more to discover. Outdoor and cultural adventures include the other-worldly Garden of the Gods park, U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, Cave of the Winds Mountain Park and the iconic Pikes Peak (there is a new visitor center at the summit). Explore the region’s Old West heritage by panning for gold at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry or enjoying a chuckwagon dinner and western stage show at the historic Flying W Ranch.

PINE FOREST BACKYARD
The highlight of the house is definitely our backyard – it’s nestled in a pine tree forest and has many nooks for you to gather, laugh and enjoy mountain life. A deck leads down to a wooden platform with benches where you can be one with the nature around you. And you may spot some of our wildlife: Herds of deer often criss-cross the yard while bunnies, woodpeckers and songbirds also make regular appearances. You may even see an owl, or a fox.

A stone pathway leads to a bonfire pit surrounded by large rocks and Adirondack chairs. Imagine hanging out here beneath twinkling stars and the soft glow of our string lights. Or unwinding in the wood-paneled hot tub which seats 6-8 people.

Our backyard is also a haven for kids: We have a treehouse play set, geodome (kids love it!), and swings that hang from trees. And back up on the main deck, there is a dining area and resort-style lounge chairs plus a BBQ grill for al fresco meals.

OPEN LIVING ROOM, KITCHEN & DINING AREAS
Our living room transports you to the Colorado mountains with handsome leather furniture and a soaring stone fireplace. Nature artwork and blue-and-white design accents add pops of color while sliding glass doors connect you to the backyard.

The gourmet kitchen feels like a modern dream – it has marble countertops, a stove set in a gorgeous stone alcove, and an island with aluminum stools. Feel like cooking up something delicious? Our upscale appliances and double ovens have you covered. And just off the kitchen is a dining room with a crystal chandelier and lighted artwork where you can enjoy meals in a pretty setting.

REC ROOM
Downstairs, a rec room offers another hangout spot for your group. Cozy up in the den which has a plush sectional sofa and large stone fireplace. Sliding glass doors bring in natural light and open to a patio beneath the deck. There is also a wet bar and full-size refrigerator. And games! A cabinet houses all kinds of board games – including Monopoly, Yahtzee and Settlers of Catan – and you can’t miss the 16-foot shuffleboard table.

6 BEDROOMS
Six bedrooms with 11 beds mean The Woodsy Retreat can sleep up to 17 guests. Our rooms have beautiful wood furniture, comfy beds and nature- and adventure-themed artwork. In terms of layout, four bedrooms are on the main floor while two are downstairs.

Two full bathrooms and a half bath on the main floor are joined by a full bathroom downstairs off the rec room. The en suite bathroom for the master bedroom is especially nice with a jetted tub and separate shower.

Joe and Ann are two courageous entrepreneurs who were willing to take a risk and rent out their own home as a vacation rental whenever they would travel. It didn’t take long until their own house was booking so much that they had to move out. And when they did, they put that house online as well and did it again. In just a few years they have built a portfolio of some of the best vacation homes in Colorado Springs.

Joe and Ann fell in love while rock climbing in Wyoming, had a skydiving engagement, and now are raising three up and coming mountaineers. Their son Samuel who is six has been the youngest person to climb many expert routes already. How many first graders do you know who have climbed all five of the 1000 foot flat irons in Boulder? The company is sort of named after him as his middle name is Adventure. You are guaranteed to see a few pictures of their families epic adventures around the house. We are hopeful that they inspire you.

Joe owns a company that coaches Entrepreneurs on how to scale their businesses. He enjoys working with CEO’s that are already on their way to success but helps them steepen their curve. That company is named Superhero Sidekick, because Joe loves being the sidekick for other Superheroes.

Ann does a little of everything behind the scenes in addition to being the mom of three very wild young boys. Ann enjoys hiking Colorado’s largest peaks and has developed a small group of ambitious ladies who are taking on 14ers with her. If it wasn’t for her willingness to rent out her home this company wouldn’t be serving hundreds of guests per year today.

Kathryn joined the Adventure Homes Team in 2018, working towards growing the business Joe and Ann began! Kathryn will take care of your every need; before, during or after your stay! As a Mama of 6 wonderful children, it is a great opportunity for her to use her multi-tasking skills at taking care of the guests and properties so well!
