Willow cottage is a comfortable, sympathetically restored two bedroom stone cottage. Nestled down a private lane in an old stone courtyard with private parking and bounded by undisturbed woodlands it is the perfect place to escape. It is conveniently located only an hour from Cork city and nine miles from the bustling town of Clonakilty with it’s trad pubs, excellent shops and restaurants, farmers market and lovely beach. A perfect place to tour west Cork and beyond.

The space
The traditionally built stone cottage has been sympathetically restored to accommodate two bedrooms with en suites and an open plan kitchen living room. The rooms are all south facing and the living room opens out to a large private patio with seating, perfect for an outdoor meal or just a glass of wine whilst watching the sun set. The living room has an easy to use wood burning stove perfect for staying cosy on wet evenings. The cottage has thermostatically controlled central heating which can be set to whatever temperature you desire to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Guests can have access to a private woodland garden which extends to 2 acres and allows guests to immerse themselves in nature.

The cottage is located in rural Cork but yet is within a 15 minute drive from Clonakilty, 10 minutes from Bandon and 5 minutes from the village of Enniskeane. The cottage is situated well off a small secondary road which has very little traffic and is safe to walk or cycle. This allows for quiet relaxation and privacy in a lovely verdant area with lots of woodland walks along country roads. The area is steeped in history with connections with Finn McCool and the Fianna and the burial place of Diarmuid is thought to be located on the far side of the Bandon river just a few fields away. In pre Christian times the local area was inhabited by a spiritual man and his followers known as St Serges. St Mary’s Church attached to Kilcolman Rectory was built on the site of St Serges’ hermitage. St Colman set up a Christian church many years afterwards to the east of this hermitage. The land along the river was planted with English settlers as part of the extension of the plantation of Bandon in the sixteen hundreds under the Earl of Bandon who lived in nearby Castle Bernard.
