Cuckoo Cottage is a cosy forest retreat on a quiet road surrounded by open forest and pasture yet within 4 miles of both Lymington and Beaulieu. This traditional, thatched cob cottage with contemporary interiors is ideal for short breaks at any time of year, to enjoy peace and tranquility with a touch of pampered luxury amidst wild and natural beauty. Set off on foot or bicycle straight from the front door to enjoy forest walks and quiet lanes with views to the Isle of Wight and the Solent.

The space
The welcome of this characterful hideaway cottage, with its windows peeping out of the thatch, its exposed beams and curved walls, is enhanced by calming natural materials such as oak and limestone. The spacious, well-appointed bathrooms both with large walk-in showers, add a touch of indulgent luxury for lazy weekends or a well deserved soak after invigorating outdoor pursuits.
(Regarding infants and children : please see footnote).
The light and airy dual aspect rooms are kept cosy with underfloor heating. While there is ample hanging and storage space within, your car will be just outside the door for convenience and security on the shared driveway accessed via electric gates requiring a code to open.
Cuckoo Cottage is blessed by its proximity to two excellent pubs: The East End Arms with its highly regarded restaurant is a 15 minute walk away while a 10 minute cycle in the other direction brings you to The Turf Cutters Arms situated in the village centre just a few steps from the well stocked village shop / post office.
Simple meals may be prepared and enjoyed in the Cow Shed kitchen-dining space, just a few steps from the sitting room’s French doors, overlooking the cottage garden. Although it does not have a conventional oven with hob, it does have the following:
*kitchen worktop with inset single-drainer sink with cold water supply.
*electric kettle, teapots, Nespresso

machine and milk frother as well as coffee capsules.
*under-counter fridge with small icebox compartment suitable for ice cubes and ice cream.
* toaster
* basic microwave oven
* single-plate induction hob with compatible frying pan / saucepans.
* all the requisite utensils for preparation , cooking and eating.
Additional cooking appliances
include a non-stick griddle and steamer.

Cuckoo Cottage sits in a little known corner of the New Forest National Park where ponies, donkeys and cows roam freely and rare birds nest secretively deep within the gorse. Just a short and gentle stroll across the heath will take you through ancient woodland and across babbling brooks.

The landscape affords distant horizons including the beckoning hillsides of the IOW coast to the south and big sky drama at sunset to the west.
The wonderful tranquility of this peaceful niche of the New Forest will make any stay here relaxing and rejuvenating.
At the same time, the easy access to a wide range of indoor and outdoor attractions will give you plenty of options should you wish to get out and about.

A shingle beach popular with canoeists, wind and kite surfers is an easy 2 mile walk away along country lanes while the ferry to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight is just over 3 miles away, on the outskirts of Lymington. The mudflats and salt marshes of the local coastline are the haunts of many seabirds, both migrant and resident; look out for them along the 5 mile sea wall walk from Lymington to the old fishing village and sailing harbour of Keyhaven, from where you can continue on to the high ridge of shingle spit leading to Hurst Castle. The National Motor Museum in Beaulieu and the historic riverside hamlet of Bucklers Hard are less than 5 miles along the road - an easy cycle if you feel like some exercise! Many miles of forest trails for cyclists are accessible from Rans Wood car park which is only 3 miles away.

I’ve lived in The New Forest for 10 years now with my husband, Ken and I love this particular location for its proximity to the sea combined with open forest access. A fascination with local history has gone hand in hand with restoring the cottage that dates back to the late 1700’s. Another passion I’ve developed since living here is bird watching - learning to recognise birds by behaviour and sounds is a real challenge!
