Located in a sunny valley of the Reggiano Apennines, between the chestnut and oak woods, Castagneda is an ancient farm with a large stone house, home to a farm that offers hospitality to tourists and hikers, to make you feel AT HOME IN THE WOODS. In the matildic lands at an altitude of 600 metres, a stone's throw from the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine Park, Castagneda is the ideal place to spend holidays immersed in the silence, peace and tranquility of nature.

The space
We have a recently renovated apartment in rustic and very welcoming style. The apartment can accommodate up to three people who will have at their disposal two bedrooms (one double and one single), an open space kitchen, a living room, a private bathroom, a private courtyard and autonomous access.
From the house there are numerous paths and walks in the surroundings and the farm is well connected to the city and the surrounding villages. Many hikers reside in Castagneda for short stays: the house is located very close to the Spallanzani Trail, an eight-step excursion that connects Reggio Emilia to San Pellegrino in the Alps.

Where you’ll be

Carpineti, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

The area is rich in historical settlements, very culturally and environmentally active, with excellent local cuisine (think Parmigiano Reggiano, Balsamic Vinegar vinegar or typical sheep and pork meat). During walks in the woods, it's easy to spot foxes, hedgehogs, roe deer, deer, and all the other animals in the forest. And then the matildic castles, the ancient stone villages, the tower houses, the metates. Together with all the culture and tradition of the Apennines, they reign. The house is surrounded by the green Apennines, surrounded by woods and mountain meadows. Carpineti, the nearest village, is just over a five-minute drive away: the Castello delle Carpinete, an ancient matildic settlement, the Pieve di San Vitale and the Metato di Marola with its chestnut groves are a short distance from home. In Castelnovo né Monti, the most important village in the mountain and about fifteen minutes away by car, you can visit the Pietra di Bismantova, a particular rocky massif that has become the symbol of the area. And again: Villa Minozzo, Mount Fosola located in Felina, the Rocca di Scandiano and the numerous ancient villages of the Apennines. The surroundings are connected by direct buses to both Reggio Emilia and mountain villages.

My name is Daniela Algeri and I have been living in Carpineti for 30 years with my family. We have been hosting people in our apartments for about fifteen years. We love this place for its absolute tranquility. Castagneda is home to our farm, where we produce lard, lard beer and flour, we raise sheep, an donkey, and yard animals. The farm extends over ten acres of land managed in the garden, sowing (medical grass and cereal), pasture, forest, chestnut grove, marrow and vineyard.
