Where you’ll be

Villiersdorp, Western Cape, South Africa

Residential neighbourhood in this small, farming-based town that is almost entirely surrounded by mountains, with the Theewaterskloof Dam and golf course nearby.
This mountainous area enjoys a unique quality of light during the day and a fabulous, clear night sky (weather permitting, of course).
Villiersdorp tends to be a rather tranquil town and the neighbourhood of 'On the Brink...' is generally a quiet residential area.
Please do expect some disturbances/irritants though - barking neighbourhood dogs and occasional night-time catfights; alarms (particularly house-alarms, as well as generators, during load-shedding!) and "friendly" (car horn) hooting; and general noise (wheelie-bins, people, dogs) associated with refuse removal on Thursdays. The sounds of traffic and agricultural industry can be heard but are not usually bothersome.

I love to travel - within and beyond South Africa. Mostly, my travel experience beyond SA includes backpacking in Europe and East Africa, with limited but truly awesome time in the East - trekking in the Himalaya (Everest Base Camp), Nepal, ..Turkey.
South Africa has an enormous amount to offer, to discover for oneself - which is paradoxically best appreciated by travelling further / abroad!
I've also learned that one explores more of one's own country when visitors arrive - so often (for me and friends abroad) this is when gems are discovered that one, as a local, hadn't known to exist!
It is great that travellers inspire travel and exploration, within and beyond one's own region and country!

I believe that travel is essential to broaden one's understanding - of a multitude of things, from basic living conditions to music and ways of conceptualising people and life - and to truly appreciate one's home!
