Thamarindha was created around the giant Tamarind trees on the property. An exclusive private holiday "bungalow”, built on the banks of Kala Oya, it is a twenty minute drive away from Sri Lanka’s largest National Park, Wilpattu. The “bungalow” comprises two raised wooden pavilions, one for sleeping and the other for dining and lounging. Inspired by glam safari camping - Wildlife Department park bungalow style, but with a few luxuries.

The space
As this is an open style bungalow in a jungle setting expect encounters with wildlife including peacock, giant squirrels and reptiles. We offer nets to sleep under to protect you from mosquitoes and other insects. Please do not leave food unattended as the monkeys may steal it.

Our property is at the end of a village. It is surrounded by paddy fields and is a five minute walk to a beautiful tank. It is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get in touch with mother nature. We are avid birders and our property is home to many of the unique birds that can be seen in Wilpattu.
Occasional visits by Leopard and Elephants have been recorded. Resident wildlife includes Fishing cat, Jungle cat, Deer, Wild boar, Jackal, Porcupine, Loris, Hare and Civets. These are very shy creatures so it is highly unlikely that you will encounter them during the day however if you do go out at night please stay strictly on the path.

During your stay

The caretakers of the bungalow are Josephine and Susantha who live adjoining the property and will assist you during your stay. However, please note they can only speak in Sinhala.
Susantha will be available throughout the day for any assistance you may require. Josephine is a good cook and can prepare most of the local cuisine.
They can also make arrangements for local food to be bought from a shop near by. Kindly reimburse them for purchases made on your behalf.
They are simple village folk and are not trained but they are very obliging and will try their best to make your stay comfortable
