This beautiful four-season farmhouse on 9 acres of land has been completely updated and modernized to comfortably house multiple families. In the winter, enjoy cozying up by the wood stove and the record collection after skiing at Wentworth Ski hill, only 25 minutes away. In the summer, enjoy exploring the brook, forest stands and waterfront, or simply sit and watch the ever-changing tides and shorebirds. Only minutes away you can explore beaches, waterfalls, and golf courses.

The space
Surrounded by windows on all sides, this bright open-concept farmhouse is the ideal space to host a getaway or family vacation. The sun streams in through windows that offer views of forests, fields, tidal shores, eagles and herons.

Rustic yet modern, the main level houses a great-room with eat-in kitchen and large living room. The dining room has expansive views to the shoreline and pasture. A sun porch has just been added off of the dining room. With gorgeous views and ample seating, this room is prefect for warm weather relaxing. Additionally, the main level has a powder room, laundry closet and a wide entrance hall with heaps of room for storage. Exposed ceiling joists compliment the bright day-lit spaces.

In the living room, you will find an eclectic record collection, an abundance of board games and puzzles, and a library of books for all ages. If you are serious about your games and puzzles, you will be happy to find a dedicated table for just this purpose. The large wood stove can easily heat the entire house (even in the depths of winter), and the generously sized couch and chairs provides ample space to cozy up.

The kitchen is well stocked with all things from hand mixers, food processor, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, and dishwasher. Thanks to the gorgeous scenery, there is no better place to cook a feast - and this kitchen is stocked to do so. The dining room with sliding door onto the sun porch and waterfront deck can sit between 4 and 12 people easily. The kitchen provides ample dishes to host multiple families.

A large deck multi level deck and sun porch overlooks nine acres of pasture, gently sloping into the Northumberland Strait: a perfect western vantage point to enjoy dramatic summer sunsets. Shell Cottage's shoreline attracts a rotating cast of migratory birds, blue herons, ducks, vultures, ospreys and eagles. The forested hallow with a winding creek is a great spot for explorers.

There is a laundry/broom closet off of the dining room with a small-scale stacked washer/dryer.

All bedrooms and the full bath are upstairs. The four bedrooms (double/single bunk, queen, queen and double, double/single bunk) have all new sheets and plenty of wool blankets and quilts. There are bath towels and beach towels available for each guest. All rooms have dressers and hooks for storage.

Where you’ll be

West Pugwash, Nova Scotia, Canada

You can find it all on the North Shore.

Our family has found that Pugwash provides for all of our wants and needs. A short five minute drive away, we love to go to town for the farmers market and library, visit the antique store and playground, jump off the municipal wharf at Dinghy beach, and pick up any necessities at the grocery/liquor store before returning home. Five minutes in the other direction is a bakery, convenience store and a lobster pound with clams, oysters, fish, mussels and lobster on offer all summer. If fried fish and clams is your game, there are two great restaurants within two minutes of Shell Cottage.

In the summer, it is difficult to choose a favourite beach within a ten minute drive, but ours is possibly Gulf Shore Provincial Park. If movement is what you desire, there is a frisbee golf course, multiple golf courses, and beautiful coastal hiking trails, all within a ten minute drive. There are many cultural activities to enjoy in the summer, including festivals and concerts at the outdoor amphitheatre and the Thinkers' Lodge.

Speaking of the Thinkers' Lodge, you will have to check it out. It's a great opportunity to see a Nobel Prize (the Peace Conferences held here won the Nobel Prize in 1995 and the Lenin Peace Prize in 1960) and learn about this incredible National Historic Site.
