Flandreau is considered among the first cities to be established in South Dakota. It was founded where it is, in part, because of a small group of Flandreau Santee Sioux that established this area as their home in the late 1800's. The Dakota here refer to Flandreau as Wakpa Ipaksan, or "The Bend in the River". This region of the Plains is simple and humble, yet diverse and beautiful. So is, we believe, the 2-bedroom historic living space we've created for you. We look forward to your visit.

The space
There is a grand stairwell to get into the apartment. Once upstairs, you'll find the remodeled loft airy, spacious, and modern yet still embracing much of the building's and community's history. The space will accommodate 5-8 comfortably with a fold out couch in the living room. The couch sleeps one definitely comfortably, two possibly. We also have two child-size bunks in bedroom #2.

Where you’ll be

Flandreau, South Dakota, United States

Downtown Flandreau is in undergoing a series of renovations and reinvestments in properties that have long been vacated. We are excited about what is happening in our community and hope you'll find it inspiring as well. The traditional Flandreau bakery, as stated above, is just next door and chances are you'll fall in love if you've never had one of their nutty donuts, long johns (famous for) or savannah's! Our new coffee shop is just around the corner. There are two local bars a 2 minute walk away, two fabulous local eateries within a 3 minute walk as well, the grocery store is a half block away and one of the region's most popular and beloved steak houses is just a super short drive back to the west. There are local parks to visit, the dam is nearby where many come to fish, the casino is close and there are some fantastic places just a short drive away to visit including South Dakota State University, McCrory Gardens, Lake Madison, Pipestone National Monument, Split Rock State Park, Palisades State Park, DeSmet's Little House on the Prairie summer outdoor play, Brookings, Sioux Falls, local golf courses, and more.
