Fazenda is the largest of the four apartments at Quinta Olivia. It measures 140 m² (570 ft) over two floors and gives you a beautiful view from the covered veranda over the Vade valley and the mountains of the Peneda-Gerês nature reserve.

The space
The main entrance door gives access to a spacious hallway with separate toilet. Through a 3-step staircase you enter the large kitchen / dining room with high ceiling (35 m2), fully equipped. From the kitchen you enter the large covered balcony (15 m2) with day bed and a beautiful view over the valley of the river Vade and the mountains of the Peneda-Gerês nature reserve. The living room is adjacent to the kitchen with a comfortable sofa. From the hallway a wide low staircase leads to the lower floor. Here you have access to your private terrace and the master bedroom (44 m2) with a double bed, open plan bathroom and walk-in closet.

At the foot of the Peneda do Gerês Natural Park lies Quinta Olivia, originally a farm from 1778. The ruins of the farm were converted in 2011 by the Dutch owners into a holiday home with 4 comfortable apartments. During the renovation, its historical character was maintained as much as possible. Especially noteworthy is the architectural style, traditionally usual in the north of Portugal, with large irregularly shaped granite stones.

Each vacation apartment is unique in layout and design: modern, light, spacious, but full of ambience. The apartments have a living room, kitchen, bedroom with bathroom and a private terrace with seating overlooking the mountains of the Peneda do Gerês nature reserve.

Quinta Olivia measures almost 3 hectares and has a very accessible car park inside the property. Guests can take advantage of facilities such as the shared outdoor swimming pool (10 × 4.5), sun loungers and parasols and free wifi.

Centrally located
Quinta Olivia is centrally located in the Minho, at the foot of the Peneda do Gerês National Park. From the your apartment it is a 20 minutes drive. Quinta Olivia is also a good base for visiting cities such as Braga (30 minutes), Guimarães (45 minutes) and Porto (60 minutes). Santiago de Compostela, too, is a well-reachable distance for a day trip at 1.5 hours. The Dutch owners are happy to help you plan activities such as hiking in the Peneda do Gerês, visiting a market or monastery. And for those who prefer to spend a day at the beach under the sun than at the swimming pool of the Quinta: the beautiful sandy beaches of Viana do Castelo, Afife and Vila Praia de Âncora are just 45 minutes away.

What to do in the area
Hiking
There are several hiking routes in the Peneda do Gerês nature reserve. We have maps from hiking tours with starting point, progress, duration and sights during the hike. They are also available at the visitor centers (portas) of the nature reserve in Mezio, Lindoso and Campo do Gerês.

Cities that are worth a visit
Ponte de Lima: dining, market, gardens
Viana do Castelo: shopping, beach
Braga: shopping, Bom Jesus, Cathedral (Sé)
Guimarães: beautiful medieval town with castle
Barcelos: market every Thursday
Porto: culture, port tasting
Valença: beautiful fortified town, popular with Spaniards because of the linen
Vigo (Spain): restaurants (seafood and fish), shopping

Markets
On Mondays every other week there’s a market in Ponte de Lima (ask Stephan or Marcel as to whether the market is the Monday of your stay). A visit to the oldest market in the country (1125) is definitely worth your while.
Missed it?
Every Thursday there is a market in Barcelos. Here are basically the same vendors as in the Ponte de Lima market.
On Mondays when there is market in Ponte de Lima, there is market on Wednesday in Ponte da Barca. On the other Wednesdays there is market in Arcos de Valdevez.

Mountain Biking
Enjoy a morning (or afternoon) mountain biking the Eco-Via along the river Lima. Mountain bikes are for rent (1st hour € 5,-; consecutive € 4,-) at InMountain, Largo de S. João 87/89, Ponte de Lima.
