Where you’ll be

Torre Pellice, Piemonte, Italy

Torre Pellice is the main center of the Italian Waldensian Church and the capital of the Montana del Pinerolese Union.

In the summer, Torre Pellice is very fun and lively which encourages one to get out to have a great time. If you are fortunate to be here, every Friday between 08h00 a.m. and 12h00 p.m. you will be able to explore the local Italian markets, which are lively places where you can see a cross-section of Italian society and learn more about the local customs and etiquette with live music in the back drop.

Torre Pellice buildings and institutions testify to its reality as the capital of the Waldensian world. We can mention the Foresteria, the Museum with a rich historical and ethnographic documentation, the Valdese House, which every year hosts the Synod, the neo-Romanesque temple of 1852 , the College (now European High School) built in 1835 , the Convitto Valdese, erected in memory of the 500 Waldensians who died in World War I , the Waldensian Youth House and the House of the Deaconesses, the headquarters of the nurse sisters at work in the numerous assistance institutions.

The " Filippo Scroppo " Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art brings together about four hundred works of painting, sculpture and drawing by post-war Italian artists, including Carena , Cordero , Gallizio , Levi , Menzio , Paulucci , Rambaudi , Ruggeri .

From the Ruà village, situated on a promontory, you can enjoy a panoramic view over the valley. The Coppieri township , once the boundary of the ghetto in which the Waldensians were confined , is today a real, completely rebuilt village.

Torre Pellice hosts an important ice hockey team , the oldest in Piedmont that still exists (although the first hockey game in Italy was played in Turin as early as 1908), born in 1934: the Hockey Club Valpellice , milita in Serie A1. This team is the most successful in Piedmont following the victory, in 2012-13, of the Italian Cup .
