Come to the Happiness Key Cottage to take care of yourself - or reconnect near the forest. You can find us at2h20 ' from Bucharest, in Cheia Resort, a starting point to the proud Ciucaș Massif, known for its highly ozone-prone, therapeutic air.
We focus on family fun and constantly invest in all kinds of games, toys and equipment for all ages, especially those for the outside. On the back terrace you can enjoy your coffee and tea (on the house) or have fun with the grill.

The space
The cottage is friendly, with an old-school charm and in a continuous improvement (we care about it very much). Right now, we're investing in outside play as a priority. We have already arranged a sand pit, we took a trampoline and several sports equipment (badminton paddles, archery with suction cups, balls, etc.). We also have a list: zipline, climbing wall, treehouse, etc. :)
The cottage has no luxurious finishes but has a familiarity that gives privacy and healthy relaxation, without pretensions. We don't guarantee perfectly ironed linens either:) Sometimes we have help cleaning, most often we do ourselves, but it's a point we care about very much. In short, do not come to the guesthouse, but to a private cottage, with charm and personality ;) .

We can comfortably accommodate up to 14 cheerful people. And, if necessary, we extend two more armchairs and the sofa in the living room, so 18 beds. The cottage is divided into ground floor, first floor and attic. On the ground floor there is a generous hallway, bathroom, living room with fireplace, kitchen and terrace facing the forest. From the inner terrace you can go to the outer one where you can find the grill and the gate to the forest. On the first floor we have 3 bedrooms and the bathroom with the hydromassage shower😉. Two of the bedrooms are large, with their own terraces and can accommodate 4 persons each. The third one is small but has a double bed. In the attic we have 2 large bedrooms, also with 4 seats and a small service bathroom. The attic smells delicious like wood, warm and welcoming. The lower fireplace heats one room per level through the stoves placed in a vertical line. In the kitchen you will find everything you need (crockery & cutlery) for more than 10 people and a mix of old and new household appliances at your disposal: dishwasher, washing machine with dryer (latest purchase), kettle, coffee maker, mixer, blender, toaster, refrigerator with built-in small freezer.
*** For children we have a playground outside (sand pit and trampoline) and, if it is warm, we also take out the inflatable pool (1.5 m in diameter). Find more outdoor toys - balls, badminton paddles, archery with suction cups, target rings and more. In the house we have society games, books and a DVD player with some DVDs of drawings but also movies and documentaries. For special occasions but not only, we can also leave the balloon machine:) for a fee - 150 Ron (the consumables must be covered).
1 min away from us at the Nicos restaurant where we recommend to eat. They have crazy cakes!

And if you've read all the way here, here's the story of the cottage:
My mother dreamed one night that she wanted a place near the forest. “I want a house at the Key” and Father: “What do you need?!" But he needed it! :) That was back in ’92 when nobody knew about DN1A, about "house in the mountains". Said and done. It was the second parcel bought on the Cow's Way, as our street was called - for this was and still is the way of the cows from the village to the pasture.
There was another house in front of us and the rest, the woods. And there were many visits there (on the way to Brasov to the maternal grandparents), some New Year's Eve to the neighbours across the street, meetings with the bears, the memory of a fabulous, magical universe, everything that can ignite the imagination of some children. The small river behind the house, then rich and impetuous, formed in winter a small lake that froze and became our rink. Oh, my gosh, my dad used to hang our ski-bob on Dacia and drag us so close to Brasov. Yes, there was no one on DN1A, there was no snow, there was a wild beauty that was embedded deep in my retina. No one knew about this place. It was our talisman.
My parents raised the cottage in the rhythm of their diligence and of the little time left from the field (they are hardworking farmers!:). By the time I finished it, the valley was full of villas. But since we've had it, there's no Easter or Christmas where we don't check it at our chalet. Here we rest best and solve all our "stresses", we leave positively loaded and relaxed.

Where you’ll be

Cheia, Prahova, Romania

The Cheia resort is located at the foot of the Ciucas massif, in the north of Prahova county, and belongs to the Maneciu commune. Probably due to the altitude - this taking place between 860 and 920 meters, the area was not industrialized, so because of the atmospheric qualities (clean air, ozonified, aerosolized, etc.), the former village was granted the status of climatic resort. The Key resort is characterized by relatively low atmospheric pressure, clean air free of dust and allergens, rich in ultraviolet rays, substantial atmospheric ionization. It is a great place to rest and recreation for people suffering from nervous asthenia, physical and intellectual overuse, benign hyperthyroitism, rickets, juvenile growth disorders, secondary anemia, etc.
It's a small resort, not invested in much. That's right and wrong. We like this intimacy and the fact that you get to know the neighbors and the people of the village. It is clearly an oasis of tranquility and is perfect for families and the most active of us (it is recommended for mountain training). In fact, a well-known mountain marathon competition, Ciucaș X3, has been organized here since 2009.
The emblem of the resort is a rare flower jewel, a pink mountain peony or rhododendron, dedicated to an annual festival in June when it blooms and colours the mountain ridges fabulously. It appears that this coloring gave it the name of Mount Red, a mountain popular with Montaniars visiting the area.

What you can visit in Cheia:
- The Museum of Anthropology Francisc Rainer, located near the monastery, near the intersection between the main street and the road leading to the holy place. It is easy to locate due to a very visible panel that marks the house in question;
- Mina Flowers Museum, located in the Center, on the right side of the Main Street (on the direction from Ploiesti) and signposted accordingly. He has a very nice collection of crystals.
Both are on Tuesdays to Sundays from 9am to 5pm.
- The Cheia Monastery. To this the very existence of the resort is connected, around this holy place being laid the cornerstone of the current settlement. The first attestation dates back to 1770, when a few shepherds from Sacele built a small hermitage, which was later scorched by the Turks. In 1790 another Hermitage was to be built and it also perished in a fire, which took place in 1832. The bases of the monastery that still exists were laid in 1835 by the hieromonks Justin and Damaschin, the latter being the first abbot here.

By car you can reach:
- Suzana Monastery, which at first sight looks like a fortified fortress, with thick walls that protect a splendor of flowers and a holy silence.
- Slănic Prahova resort is an excellent spa, just as easily off-the-radar, where you will have fun and discover some very interesting things. Relatively close to Cheia, it offers you the chance to make mud baths and discover one of the largest salt mines in Romania.
- Nicolae Iorga Memorial House from Vălenii de Munte
- The Dam Lake from Maneciu What

you can do in Cheia:
Nothing!!! Wonderful, isn't it? :) Just sleep, eat and love. This is the recipe for the Key to Happiness, we discovered it here too:D
- Hiking. From us to the Chalet you can make several routes (walking or biking) to Mount Roșu and Ciucaș.
- Mountaineering. Only with the consent of the parents or, as the case may be, of the children :D
- In the center of the resort there is a gym that can be rented for football, basketball, tennis, etc.

Our recommendations:
After so many years of Cheia, we have some small ritualistic walks: we leave for the village, we pass by the slope behind the huge antennae (another great fascination of childhood, the peak is that only this year we found out what they are for, read below), we go to the Cheia hotel, where opposite is a fair and a shop - the delight of children with all possible Chinese dishes. Effectively, you do not leave without “clinging to something”. The fair is small and charming: in the summer, I bring people from the forests, gold: horns, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, godly goodies. And from the stalls, you're sure to stick to a bunny or some good furry shoes to the cottage.
From here we have 2 options: either we go forward and pass Zăganul and make a return on a street higher, and admire all sorts of stylish villa, or we go back a little and enter the Museum of Mine Flowers (UNMISSABLE!!!, they have some fascinating crystals), we pause across the street at Nea Titi for a beer on the two massive trunks and then we take to the Monastery, we enter the alley guarded by conifers in the yards, we enter the stylish courtyard, we take a look at the chicken trail and the newly established trout farm - the monks are very well organized, the super-housekeepers! Then we pass by the cemetery and again we get to the huge antennas (this time we have them on the left) and we take the path behind the houses, we pass by the guesthouse Nicos and we get to us. And every few hundred steps, we stop and remark with emphasis: “God, the mountains are beautiful!" You see, you have much to do.
