Five minutes' drive from happening Speightstown, but a world away through a forest and up a hill, PEARL is a precious place of holistic island living. With an amazing panorama of the wonderful west coast, this serene hideaway, set in a tropical garden of fruit trees and coconut palms, is a gem. The beautiful verandah and sundeck encourage outdoor living. Your spacious room is beautifully decorated and has its own private entrance, bathroom and living area. Breakfast available, yoga optional.

The space
PEARL: Where wild nature meets the sea and the sky. And the sun, moon and stars get to shine.

Life is mainly outdoors here on the beautiful verandah or sundeck. Relax and take in the magnificent view across lush tropical forest to the turquoise sea and sky beyond. Ideal for sunshine by day, moon and stars at night!

The house nestles in a garden of fruit trees; huge mango trees at the front, coconut palms, sour sop and golden apple at the back and banana trees, lemon grass and aloe vera around the front door. Like a pearl, it is nature at its finest.

It is a peaceful place to retreat to after a day at the beach and a wonderful place to wake up in before another day in paradise.

Inside, the room is spacious, freshly decorated with new hotel standard beds which can either be King or 2 twins - you can see the sea when horizontal through one of its three windows! It has a sizeable ensuite with walk-in shower. There is also a small fridge, oven and kettle. Breakfast and a small menu is available on request. The house is on a hill and quite high up so there’s a constant breeze, which as well as keeping the place cool, keeps the mosquitos away.

PEARL invites you to step away from your daily routine and surrender to nature's rhythms. However you are in fact only 5 minutes by car from bustling Speightstown, which is like stepping back in time in the Caribbean but at the same time is very happening with great restaurants and bars, and beautiful beaches.

For those who wish, yoga can be arranged on the deck as your host Judith is an experienced Yoga Teacher and one yoga session is included in the price for those staying for at least a week (optional).

Liking dogs is a plus - adorable fluff-ball, Lily Pearl, makes a very attentive co-host.

Where you’ll be

Speightstown, Saint Peter, Barbados

The Whim is a quiet winding road, up a hill, through a picturesque National Trust gully, a bit like an enchanted forest with hanging vines and a tunnel of trees guiding you through . It is a gentle, peaceful community with its own Cricket Club which seems to be a regular weekend hang-out.

In contrast, just 5 minutes' drive away in happening Speightstown, are beautiful soft sandy beaches, turquoise waters and great places to eat, drink, listen to live music, like Little Bristol, The Local & Co, The Crab Hole and Outpost (previously One Eleven East) - all excellent beach bars/restaurants. From Speightstown, it's easy to get by bus or car to Holetown, Sandy Lane and other west coast hot spots or to head east to the wilds of Bathsheba and more rugged shores.
