Fernhill farm is a holistic eco-farm where livestock graze in open flat fields and woodlands on top of Cheddar Gorge in Somerset. Dating back to the 17th Century, Grade II listed barns now offer rustic farm venues with a unique range of onsite accommodation.

Welcoming groups, we provide eco-venues that incorporate natural and renewable resources, leave little trace and allows the simple things in life to perhaps still be the best

The space
The Ramshackle Shetland Arc is Fernhill’s version of a Shepherd’s Hut. This is available to book individually or as add-on accommodation for larger groups. We have three unique Arcs available.

The Shetland Arc sleeps up to four guests on 1 x double & 1 x queen single mattresses. It is beautifully hand crafted from timber milled here on the farm. Insulated by wool, these arcs are warm and cosy even in the winter months.

Under sheets, pillows, and pillowcases are provided, you will need to bring your own duvet/sleeping bag & towel (towels stipulated online are referring to hand towels).

A picnic bench, BBQ & Fire pit is available with the Arc, logs and coals can be purchased from our Farm Shop. If you would like some Fernhill Farm meat, we have BBQ & Breakfast packs (inc veggie options) available as well meat to support your catering needs. Order online - https://www.fernhill-farm.co.uk/farm-shop (must be booked in advance).

Kitchen facilities with seating options are available at an additional cost, please advise if you require.

Please note: you will be asked to confirm that your booking adheres to Government rules and that your group will follow the Fernhill Farm Terms and Conditions. We will also require names and contact details so we can comply with Track & Trace.

I run Fernhill Farm with my partner Andy, on top of Cheddar Gorge just South of Bristol. Our eco-farm is certified regenerative where we are demonstrating grass-fed cattle, sheep and a few pigs in the woods can aid biodiversity when managed accordingly. I am passionate about all things woolly and also manage (Website hidden by Airbnb) from our farm too. Our camping barns are restored cattle sheds, with underfloor heating, solar electricity, and we encourage recycling. We believe in treading lightly on the land, and are delighted to offer an environmentally friendly venue for your stay.

During your stay

Andy is the full-time nomadic shepherd here, managing over 5000 sheep all across the Mendip Hills:

A lifetime developing skills and a passion for blade shearing is evident through the years representing England at international sheep shearing competitions, along with recognition from BISCA in their Long Standing Service Award 2018 for his contributions to the shearing industry.
Andy trains, teaches, and promotes multipurpose sheep and their benefits on the land. Welcoming urban faces to our rural landscape helps keep the grey Mendip mist at bay through the long shepherding days.

Long-time partner to Andy and mum to Kyle and Seth, Jen is behind the events business and is now turning her attention to natural fibres:

Products with Provenance is our holistic message to re-educate, recognise true potential and incorporate every aspect of our natural resources and the key goal of our fibre business is to reposition wool in society as a primary product rather than by-product from the sheep meat industry. Our fibre shop supplies fleece, yarns, felts, fabric and ready to wear garments.
