The quarter provides accommodation for guests and visiting engineers /staff members. It is a simple plan, built on a small budget and designed without harming the surrounding vegetation. As the Wind power park is situated in a unique landscape, that is cultivated as a seasonal lagoon that floods during three months of the year and it has a unique ecosystem attracts a variety of birds.

The space
The upper floor consists of a living area, two rooms for staff and two rooms for guests. Each bedroom has a panoramic view of the surrounding grassland lagoon landscape. Each room comes with an attached bathroom that has an open to sky courtyard for natural ventilation. The rooms open out at the corners to a more expansive views , not 180 but nearly 270 degree due to the corner openings that vanish. The inner glazed screens provided options of disappearing into the walls at the corners providing uninhibited views of the landscape. The timber screens further act as an additional layer of heat protect to the inner glazed screens. Also there is an option to condition the space in the future if necessary. As temperatures here can soar during the hot summer months.
The property has been built with a close connection to this rich grass swept context, with an open ground floor living area and with the finishes that reflect and blend into the colors of its surroundings. The ground floor consists of an open living, dining area, kitchen, caretaker’s quarters and a shallow pond with a sculptural spiral staircase leading to the upper floor. The ground floor has an expansive height of 14’ which adds to the spatial experience of a wild open landscape flowing into the building. The roof appears to be floating, supported by steel props.

A shallow pond, that is situated beneath a sky lit space at the core of the building acts as the eye of the place The pond has varying water depths that catch the light and reflection of the distant wind turbine. The four corners of the plan are sliced through, with the pond in the center offering the notion of an axis that opens out.
This is a crafted guest house and has been built using locally available materials. Polished cement floors and matt cement finished walls (indoors and outdoors) have been used, hand finished stone is for entrance steps. Simple and subtle artistic finishes such as a sunburst pattern are embedded into the cement floors. The overall use of an aesthetic that looks ossified or eroded (such as the surface of the spiral staircase, or the matt rendered walls) enable the building to blends into the surrounding mudflat landscape. Simple furniture, such as those for the living space – that comprises old reclaimed benches and table incorporating a verandah living feeling. Microclimatic modulation was important in the project as it is located in a hot environment; most of the public areas in the ground floor are open to the environment without glazing, mostly used by staff /guests in the evenings with cool evening lagoon breezes, and when glazing has been used in the bedrooms, double screens in timber for light heat filtration provided. Stack effect has been created with the property, a skylight and pond beneath dissipating heat. Lifted roofs and plinths to create an effect of lightness, and feeling of floating and merging with the grasslands.
