This awesome guest cottage was once a hen house on this historic farm. Newly renovated. Spacious yet cozy. Bright and sunny. Big windows with a lovely view of the pond and farmland that goes on forever. Gas fireplace. Sleeps 4. Double bed in loft and two twin beds on the main floor. Open living space. Large bathroom is separate from the cottage and a short walk as the cottage has no running water. Small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, Coffee maker. Peaceful and private. Big sunny deck.

The space
Get away from it all with a stay in this lovely cottage out in the middle of serene farm land. Cuddle up by the fire with a good book. Take a walk down to the pond. Enjoy spectacular bird watching. An artists and photographers dream. Gas fireplace. AC. Dorm Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, DVD player, DVD’s, games, puzzles, art supplies. Large bathroom with an old but usable shower is separate and a short walk from the cottage. The Dancing Bear Cafe remains closed due to the Pandemic however, dinner can be preordered before your stay from a small menu (please order two days ahead) and brought to the cottage. Ask to see the menu. Lots to see. Peacocks wander the grounds. The sunsets are stunning and the night sky is amazing. Rustic and homey. It's a real farm after all. Your boots will get muddy but the smiles will be sunny. If you’re looking for a sparkly hotel stay this isn’t for you. We have a second cottage (The Artist's Cottage) that has running water, with a kitchen and bathroom. No smoking or barbecue’s anywhere on the property. If booking is for more than two people there is a charge of 35 dollars per each additional person.

Public pool. Fitness centers. Two grocery stores. A Walmart, churches, restaurants, laundry mat, gas stations, Movie Theatre, and library. 1 mile from the Higginsville Country Club, small airport and City Lake.

I am a west coast native who bought a small farm in the Midwest in 1994. I am a chef and have a wonderful little restaurant called The Dancing Bear Cafe(open Friday and Saturday evenings by reservation) on the property in an old brick chicken hatchery. I have been in business 20 years. I love the peace and tranquility of living out in the middle of nowhere yet close enough to Kansas City for outings. I enjoy cooking and eating great food, laughter, animals, art, music, books, gardening, nature. Although I have had many friends stay in our little cottages this is my first experience on Airbnb. I am excited to share these beautiful spaces.

During your stay

This wonderful cottage with big sunny, southern facing windows looks out over horse pasture, orchard and the pond. Although it sits 90 or so feet from the main house it feels very private. Other than trips to the bathroom which is separate from the cottage ( for use of guests of The Pond House only. Private bathroom, with private entrance, locked off of but attached to our home) you can be as reclusive as you like. This is a working farm. Ducks, geese, chickens, peacocks, roam the grounds. We have horses, bunnies, cats, dogs, goats, and a pig named Hammie. We have two large Great Pyrenees working dogs. They bark at night. During the warmer months the Peacocks scream. Animals poop. During the winter Ladybugs hibernate in the cottage. We occasionally have mice. You may run into a snake. It's the country after all.
