The space
A loft STUDIO in Wisconsin's Northwoods 8 miles from Boulder Junction, WI. Nope, NOT ON A LAKE, but you'll find several LAKES & TRAILS just minutes down Rustic Rd 60. Vintage earthy "refurbishedness" in a new building, a convenient kitchenette, and privacy make the Loft a cozy, tranquil retreat away from the world.

Our current plan allows for one device (laptop, phone, etc) to utilize WIFI while 2 others at same time can use WIFI but need to use own mobile data.

Streaming: Initial buffering delays, but on bad weather days, there may be hangups. **If you think you'll watch MOVIES, best to download some onto your device ahead of time, so that you can watch offline when here. You might get an SD card at Walmart for less than $10 if you need more storage. You can download here; it just takes longer. Much more convenient to download ahead of time.

Large selection of DVDs here, but you need to bring your own player/device.

1 adjustable Memory Foam Queen bed – with remote, can elevate foot, head, or both

DECK:
Spacious, UPPER LEVEL, private, covered, SCREENED-IN 24ftx8ft with double swing, 2 swivel wrought iron chairs, table/gas flame fire pit- you can BBQ in almost any weather. GAS GRILL as pictured. We supply a 20# tank; can be refilled in Boulder Junction as needed. Viewing from the balcony doesn't stop after dark; turn on a floodlight that shines 20 ft out into the woods. Maybe you'll be so fortunate as to be here on a clear night with a full moon and see the forest awash in moonlight. Magical.

CELL PHONE COVERAGE: It varies with service. Check with your provider before coming. *This includes GPS, so you might want to screenshot directions whenever you can before hitting the road.

HEAT: Electric radiant. Also infrared fireplace

WILDLIFE:
If you're quiet, you might hear the wolves howl or an owl hoot overhead. In late Apr/early May you’ll hear a chorus of frogs chirping. It's very likely you will see an eagle soar above. One winter, just 10 ft from the balcony, we saw a fox trot by carrying a snowshoe hare. Mouth full, he stopped to gaze directly at us. (So consider keeping your phone/camera nearby.)

PET-FRIENDLY:
Limit 1 (Additional dogs $20 fee; please disclose before you come)
Built-in kennel space for your pooch; you don’t need to bring one.
Please inform us of the pet pals you are bringing, so we can situate things for them.
Keep them on leash and close by. Remember that you are on the edge of a wilderness area... If you leave them at unit, please keep them in the kennel area designed for them. DO NOT leave them on the deck. If you need to take the pup out at night, there are overhead lamps that light the area safely.

DINING AREA: Extended counter, best for 2, suitable for 3. Trays, and a table on the deck as well.

Spacious & private, with a long counter, bathtub with handrail. Towels provided (1 per guest for ea 2 days).

MULTIPURPOSE SPACE (REMOTE WORK AREA, STORAGE, KENNEL):
Off of bathroom and open area is the multipurpose space that functions as your storage, desk/work space. Bathroom door closed & gate in place, it becomes a spacious & safe kennel area for your pooch (see pics, gate not shown).

SITTING AREA: 2 glider rockers, futon chair/sleeper (easy to adjust)
TV: 30in, not smart... (just some basic channels, no cable)

STORAGE:
Two 3 drawer bed stands on each side of bed to conveniently store your things. Pantry 6 shelves, multipurpose space, shelves, shelve in stairwell, and many hooks throughout unit

KAYAKS:
2 minimally used adult 10ft Pelican sit-ON kayaks that also function as stand up paddleboards (we have only ONE SUP Paddle)
1 Older 9ft sitIN Townline Otter (therefore heavier)
1 older 10ft sitIN Townline Vapor kayak
(flotation devices, 4 kayak paddles)

*Pelicans are stackable, so they fit in a compact SUV, such as a CR-V (bring bungee cords), and bungee the back.
If you haven’t transported kayaks before, we’ll help situate you. Seriously, it's only minutes to lakes right down Cty Rd K (rustic rd 60). Less than 5min to Lost Canoe, White Sand Lakes. 10min to Ballard, Star, North & South Trout, Allequash Lakes. (Swimming beaches at White Sand and North Trout)

Lands End at the Edge Loft is intended for those seeking a QUIET retreat. While it's all wilderness for miles in back, there are 3 other summer cottages down the road in front, approximately 1000 ft away. We wish for you to experience tranquility, and also for our guests to respect others' wish for it also.

If you're looking to play loud music and party into the night, don't book with us. There are other places better suited for that. Of course, we want you to have a beer and a lotta good laughs as you BBQ, we just ask that you keep loud noise to a minimum and honor quiet time after 9p.

You are the only group in the building. If you book just the Loft, the downstairs rooms remain vacant.

ADDITIONAL APPLIANCE INFO to help you with your cooking intentions:

Oster large digital countertop convection oven - can fit a pan with 2 in height, 10.5 in width, 12.5 in length. Cooks like an oven but with faster more even cooking. Digital controls, 7 cooking settings & interior light. Can fit one 12 inch pizza, small casseroles, even a small roast.

Rice cooker Steamer & Multi-Cooker: 3-Cup (Uncooked) 6 Cups Cooked. Any kind of rice & other foods inc oatmeal, soups & vegetables.1 step auto cook; auto shutoff when cooking complete.

Welcome to the Neighborhood!
We are located in the heart of Vilas County, just off scenic Rustic Rd 60 (County K) in the Star Lake/Sayner/Plum Lake/Boulder Junction area, all within the 236,000 acre Northern Highland American Legion (NHAL) state forest. Vilas County contains the highest concentration of lakes in Wisconsin, with 563 named lakes and 755 unnamed. Although you'll be staying in a semi-secluded area, you'll still find a good cup of coffee, breakfast, select groceries, a bike rental, and the 50+mile Heart of Vilas paved bike trail in nearby Boulder Junction, just 8miles west.

Lands End at the Edge is situated in a QUIET rustic cul de sac with 3 other summer homes, the nearest 1000ft away. The loft screen porch/deck is very private and faces one of the most expansive wilderness areas of NHAL. We live 175ft away and share the first part of the driveway with guests.

This area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts... Here is just a sampling of what you will find in a very short distance from here:
1/8mi from your door is County Rd K--a scenic challenging rollercoaster bike ride! (It’s a narrow winding road, so we advise wearing reflector vests or flashing lights.)
5 OR LESS MINUTES from here:
K WEST (toward M/Boulder Junction)
-Lost Lake (canoe/kayak) non-motorized
-White Sand Lake Boat Launch (sign)
-White Sand BEACH for swimming! Turn on Nixon Lake Rd. Less than ¼ mi look for cement columns and follow path to lake.
-LumberJack and Escanaba Bike/Hike/Ski trails right off Cty K
-unnamed logging roads/snowmobile trails that are great to hike/bike and see wildlife
K EAST (going toward Star Lake)
Fish Hatchery Rd (big sign on right) – a wide quiet packed sand gravel rd with little to no traffic—perfect for easy mountain biking, hiking. Leads to Mystery Lake, Echo Lake and then Escanaba Lake – quiet little lakes you need fishing permits for at the Hatchery Headquarters at Escanaba Lake. If you watch on the right, you will also see access/parking for the Escanaba ski/hike/mtn bike trail. If you keep going, it will take you out to M. If you want to do a BIKING LOOP, when you come out on M, catch the Heart of Vilas bike trail North (on other side of M) to K and back “home.” It’s also a nice scenic evening DRIVE/LOOP if you take M north and hop off on Ben Bendricks on the left for a drive/sit on a bench by North Trout Lake before heading back.
Old White Birch Rd (right) – easy mountain biking/hiking, secluded. Branches off to other lesser traveled backroads and crosses snowmobile trails. Snowmobile trails will give you distances to restaurants and such; if you get turned around, just follow signs to Stillwaters which brings you back out on K down the road. Lakes back in this area: Razorback and secluded and scenic Lone Tree. If you are headed toward these lakes, check maps in your room for specifics.
10-15 MINUTES FROM HERE
K WEST to Boulder Junction: Catch the Heart of Vilas paved bike trail at end of K/intersection of M. Park on side of road. You can then take trail south to North Trout Lake/Beach, Ben Bendricks Rd (part of trail), another 3-4 mi to Crystal Lake Beach and a few more miles to the Corner store for ice cream (all on the trail.
OR take Old K to the right (before you get to K and M) into Boulder Junction. Off old K, you will cross the Lumberjack trail and a snowmobile trail I think that goes into town. You might explore some of the roads to the right. Lumberjack trail and parking well-marked.
(In Boulder Junction: Chamber of Commerce Tourist info, Coontail market and bike rental, gas, liquor. Good connection at the library/community center if for some reason you can’t get one here. Boulder Junction Coffee—you must have coffee and a breakfast burrito here before you continue on the Heart of Vilas Trail that parallels K leading out of BJ toward Manitowish Waters (good wifi at coffee shop too). Flea market on Tuesdays Mem Day-Labor Day, Music downtown on Wednesdays
Aqualand AleHouse - best vegetarian pizza and outstanding ribs in an outdoor garden. Music often on Saturdays

OR take K EAST from here ….
Launch at Ballard and Irving Lakes off Camp 2 on the right. Bike Camp 2....
Another 5 min down the road, catch a burger or pizza down the road at Stillwaters.
Mtn Bike Ol Rismon (little to no traffic) off on the right—it makes a long loop. Some rough sandy portions
Another 10min down Camp 2, turn left on Weschler and then on Partridge Lake Landing to get to a semi-secluded Partridge Lake. Almost directly across the lake, there are wilderness campsites, big, high, and open—perfect for a picnic.
If you keep going on Camp 2, you will run into Nixon Lake Rd—take it west and it will come out by White Sand Lake and brings you back to K.

15-20 MINUTES
K EAST to Star Lake Cemetery (on the right at top of hill)

To N South –a lovely road to bike (has a bike lane)
Star Lake General Store - the cute little one stop shop - groceries, essentials, good frozen pizza. Rent a pontoon... Check out the Fredericksons’ Minnow shack.
Access to Star Lake Nature trail by turning on State House Rd (before the store). Stay straight/follow signs.
Boat launches to Star lake
Free public panfishing from the pier in Centennial Park not far from the General Store on State House Rd
Visit the Fredericksons' Minnow Stand(ask about it at the store)
Or kayak/fish lovely remote secluded Partridge Lake:
Historic Star Lake Cemetary at the top of the hill just before N
You might park at the cemetary and bike County Rd N, another rollercoaster paved ride:) to Sayner and catch the Heart of Vilas Trail there going East to St. Germain
Stillwaters Pub and Grill outdoor seating (BEST FRIDAY FISH FRY)

WEST on K (before BJ):
Go deeper into the woods...and visit Nixon Lake State Natural Area down Nixon Lake Rd about 2 miles. You might check the map before you go. Nixon Lake Rd goes through a semi-remote area of NHAL.. One of the best drives to get up close and personal to the pines. ...maybe kayak, canoe, or fish Nixon Lake.
Cathedral Point - South on M and a right by Forestry Headquarters sign. A little easy hike in to a shaded area of 100 yr old pines between North and South Trout Lakes. BBQ grills and picnic tables there.
North Trout Beach and boat launch with lots of paved parking space. Swim and kaya
Park at end of K and hit the Heart of Vilas Bike Trail (South to Crystal Lake, St Germain and North to Boulder Junction)

20 MINUTES to Sayner. (K EAST)Take N South and a right in Sayner to hit the Vilas Museum or the snowmobile museum on a rainy day.
Vinchi's Hillside Pub and Grill outdoor seating--great pizza and burgers
Or hit Mystery Lake, Echo Lake, & Escanaba Lake about 10 mi down Fish Hatchery Rd
WEST on K: Lookin for a short scenic drive and bench by a lake? Go South on M and take a right on Ben Bendricks

We are outdoor enthusiasts who love to bike and kayak in the great up north, looking to share our new corner of the world with other outdoor enthusiasts. We began hosting in DePere, Wisconsin, south of GreenBay fall of 2015. We so enjoyed hosting guests from all over the world, loved our little country corner lot, the excitement of having Lambeau nearby, and welcoming returning Packer fan guests year after year.., but we heard the Wisconsin Northwoods calling....

And so here we are now living in Star Lake/Plum Lake/Sayner area 8 mi out of Boulder Junction WI by the Northern Highland American Legion state forest. It's a mecca for outdoor sports here, and we're thrilled to have it all right outside our door.

We've been working on putting this joint together for several years...pouring cement, blowing in insulation, hanging steel, digging in the mud, and all sorts of things we thought we'd never do... It's been a great Pandemic project certainly. And now we're opening it up to guests who wish to experience the Northwoods!

Now, if you're reading this as one of our former guests, know that we'd so love to host you again--and share this grandeur! Albeit, do realize the "vibe" here will be a bit different, maybe not so much cavorting with fellow Packer fans (we're so going to miss that great camaraderie), but rather more of a cavorting with the great outdoors and all it has to offer!
