Villa Evangelini is a wonderful aristocratic 19th Century neo-classical villa, with private pool, which nestles among 3 acres of private gardens, orchards and olive groves in the exclusive area of Poseidonia. This coral pink house with pale grey shutters sleeps up to 9 guests in 4 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms. The 3 delightful guest houses each sleep 2 guests giving a a combined total of 15 guests. Both the main house and the guest houses have been lovingly restored to be both stylish and bohemian.

The space
Conde Nast said about Evangelini
"Posidonía. A honey-coloured house situated opposite a blue church. The rooms would hold their own in a lifestyle magazine, and are unusual by Greek standards in that they are furnished with antiques. The villa's grounds have been landscaped to provide various eating and seating areas, a large barbecue and a good-sized pool . Several outbuildings house additional bedrooms, making the villa ideal for a group of friends or a couple of families. Close to the villa are beaches, bars and tavernas at Agathopés, Fínikas and Mégas Gialós where swimming is safe and the food is of the high standard and generous quantities that prevail when Greeks themselves dominate the tourist population"

Entering into the villa through the delightful conservatory with marble floor, comfortable sofa, dining table and armchairs, this leads into the spectacular entrance hall with its marble topped desk, antique chest and tons of books. The splendid drawing room, with seating for 9, has marble floors, antique furniture, dining table and many objets d’art. Shuttered windows on two sides look across the gardens. The downstairs bedroom (with twin beds and en-suite bathroom) is air conditioned and perfect for those guests with mobility problems. The farmhouse kitchen is the hub of the house, with marble tiled floor, blue painted walls and pale blue handmade units, has an electric hob and oven, large fridge freezer and dishwasher. A wooden staircase leads to the landing where there are 3 bedrooms – all individual, all with air conditioning and all with breathtaking views. Bedroom 2 has a cast iron 4 poster double bed plus an additional single bed. The en-suite bathroom has a walk in shower, loo and sink. The antique mahogany furniture contrasts with the crisp white bed linen. French windows lead onto the balcony with views to the Church (conde nast described the villa as “a honey coloured house opposite a blue Church”). Bedroom 3 with its pale blue walls and nautical prints has twin beds, a wooden wardrobe and very high pitched wooden ceiling. French windows lead onto the second balcony with views across the gardens. The en-suite bathroom has a walk in shower with sink and loo. Bedroom 4 (The Indian Room) is furnished with lots of original prints and wall hangings. There are twin beds and a fitted wardrobe. As with the other upstairs bedrooms, French windows lead onto the balcony.

Although, the main house is separated from the guest houses by a huge ornamental pond with pergola the two areas marry together really well with plenty of space and seating areas for you all to sit together. The Guest Houses have been lovingly restored and, as with the main house, are both bohemian and stylish. Grey painted doors and white shutters contribute to their general feeling of tranquility. The bamboo covered pergola, old pine dining table, painted settle and outdoor lighting set the scene for al-fresco dining.

Guest House 1 – the entrance vestibule has original tiled floors, white roughed plaster walls, antique kilim, chest of drawers, two sofa beds (for extra guests) and two comfy armchairs. Two steps lead up to the kitchen area with sink, fridge, 2 ring electric hob and kettle and toaster etc. The pitch pine dresser is full of crockery and glasses. A further step leads into the bedroom where the crisp white bedding on the pretty twin beds compliment the mahogany furniture. The en-suite bathroom has shower cubicle, sink and loo. The shuttered windows keep the house cool in the summer. Delightful paintings and wall hangings complete the picture.

Guest House 2 (the Indian Room) is a delight with original tiled floors , double bed, antique kilims on the floor, wardrobe and bedside tables. The en-suite has shower cubicle, sink and loo. The kitchen is shared with Guest House 1.

Guest House 3, with its nautical theme, has white roughed plaster walls, delightful twin beds, a beautiful old chest of drawers and mahogany wardrobe which contrasts with the crisp white bedding. The en-suite bedroom has shower cubicle, sink(which is set into an antique wash stand) and loo. The small kitchen is well equipped.

2019 August Review.
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Evangelini. Dimitri was absolutely charming - incredibly helpful and thoughtful from our arrival (with cake, coffee and a detailed verbal download of the house). The house itself is as beautiful as the pictures describe, with gardens full of fruit trees and vines, and the pool is in a magical setting. All wonderfully maintained too. There are also 3 owls that live in the tree outside the front door who are spectacular!

Dimitri took us on a little fact finding drive on arrival which meant we were familiar with the area/beaches/restaurants pretty quickly, and we were introduced to the lovely Lali who looks after the house and also cooks too. She made us a wonderful Moussaka and cake for our arrival and then we asked her to make a couple of additional meals which were fabulous. She is a great benefit to the set up as she’s v charming (v little English but very keen to please), and keeps the house immaculate, and does washing etc. Dimitri was also kind enough to take the kids and me out on his boat around the area which was great fun. Dimitri is attentive but not intrusive and gets the balance right.

The food was wonderful - the fact that you can wonder from the house to 3 restaurants is a lovely thing, and as Dimitri owns the house, when you mention his name you get a lovely reception from shop and restaurant owners.

All in all a charming place to stay - beautifully done.

Where you’ll be

Poseidonia, Greece

Villa Evangelini sits majestically in the middle of this exclusive village (also known as Della Grazia) – a collection of splendid homes which was originally created as a rural retreat only 10kms away from the main town, Ermoupolis, where the rich and famous Greek shipping fraternity spent their summers. The beaches are divine – the closest, Fetouris, is only a 5 minute walk away but there are many to choose from – Kini with its sandy beach and beachside tavernas, Vari with its shallow protected water and English style castle perched on the rocks. Galissas and Finikas (with smart yachts in the marina) are only a short drive away. Two tavernas within a 5 minute walk to choose from and even a bus into town every half hour if you don’t want to drive. The island's capital is well worth a visit during your stay with resplendent pastel-hued villas, glorious neoclassical buildings, venetian architecture, cobbled streets and marble squares. The Apollo theatre has been perfectly restored as a miniature facsimile of La Scale in Milan which hosts an annual international opera festival, jazz evenings and many theatrical and musical performances. A recent Daily Telegraph article described Syros as the “idyllic Greek island nobody has heard of”.
