We are on The Mighty Mississippi River. Your backyard. You can sit on your porch, shade deck, sun deck or walk out on to the dock and enjoy your morning brew. In the evening you can sit out on the dock and view a beautiful sunset. Eagles are visitors to the area, as well as Great Blue Herons, river otters, muskrats, and varieties of ducks. This is truly a place for those who love to be on water. When the day is done come in to your home away from home.

The space
There are two bedrooms with new beds and cozy new bedding. The master has a queen size bed and the second room has two twin beds. The living room has a large flat screened TV with WiFi, a gas fireplace, and a couch with a fold out queen size bed, so you can sleep up to 6 (with special permission). You have one full bath with a shower ( no bathtub)
There is a full kitchen with a dining area and also an island with two stools. The kitchen has everything you need, including a dishwasher microwave, oven, and refrigerator.
You have a screened in porch to enjoy when the weather permits.
We just added an Alexa for your use. I left some information about it on a desk. We also added a usb port which can charge up to six devices.
You have a private screened in porch and shade deck. There is also a sun deck with table and chairs, a dock, and a shady beach to enjoy , when the Mississippi River isn’t flooding.
To understand what makes this place unique, all you have to do is look out your living room window or walk out your door and turn left. The Mississippi River is your backyard.

Where you’ll be

La Crosse, Wisconsin, United States

When you drive onto the island you won't realize that behind all those homes is a respite from the real world. Once you settle in you have no reason to go off looking for beauty unless you want to. The island is interesting in that there are newer homes, and older homes and across the street there is a nursing home But, the Mississippi River is your backyard and every day it is different. You might see eagles catching fish or Great blue herons standing on the dock. We have had visits by otters. There are great places to eat, lots of biking trails, several parks, several theatre experiences, Mount La Crosse ski hill, antique stores, and so much more.
* We live less than two miles from the downtown area, .9 mile from Gundersen Clinic/ Hospital and across the street from Bethany Riverside Retirement Community.

My husband Pat and I along with my parents, built this house in 1992. The land had belonged to my father since the 1960's. So we were very fortunate to have an opportunity to live here on the Mississippi River.

I love to read, get together with family and friends, and travel. Biking is great and I belong to a bike club (social, not competitive). My husband and I go boating several times a week when the water is open. I am kind of a coffee snob (but only because I love it). Popcorn is a must have food and I need to make it the old fashioned way. I love all kinds of music and still enjoy concerts and learning about the music that our three grown children like.

I love to travel and meet new people and make new friends. Through Airbnb, we made friends with new friends from Australia. They invited us to visit and I finally got my husband to travel with me to on a three-week adventure! Now he's got the travel bug too!

We live in the upper two floors of the house, so it is easy for us to be around to help out with any questions or needs while you stay. But, you also have your own private apartment on the first level which gives you access to all the amenities and a place to relax on your own.

I think of my life here as filled with simple pleasures!

During your stay

We live upstairs so we may be around to help you with information and make sure that you have what you need. (do not be afraid to ask) Guests have looked for items and thought that we did not have something and we actually did.
We have started a guidebook and keep adding information as we go along. Please let us know your needs and we will find the answer if possible.
If we are out on the dock or enjoying a fire on the beach, you are welcome to join.
We want you to have the privacy that you came to enjoy, but we also love meeting and visiting new people.
