Location, location, location - that alone makes this property (ph. 989999 followed by 7370) worth your consideration. Not just for connectivity (it is the first upscale in-town place of stay as you come from the Airport towards Dibrugarh town; and it's just 10-15 minutes away from Assam Medical College/Main Bazaar), it is also in the greenest neighbourhood of Dibrugarh. With the sprawling Jalan tea garden right in front of the house, the area is also the quietest; your house, a creative story.

The space
The first house along the tea garden with red tin roof, this is a two year old property specially made for homestays. The ground floor, built by my late father, is wher my mom and sometimes me stay. We have a total of six rooms. You can book the entire house - with extra beds etc, 15-18 people can easily stay. This particular room has an all white theme with large window panes, a private bathroom and a large balcony that looks out to the sprawling tea garden. A large, luxurious circular double bed, ideal for couples in romance, occupies centre space. Very airy and full of natural light, you will rarely need to use the AC. Enjoy the fresh air as you slide the floor-to-ceiling glass doors and let the tea garden flow into your bedroom. The private bathroom is white and quirky with an interesting basin counter: It's made of wood found underneath the Brahmaputra sandbanks, buried since the 1950 great Assam Earthquake! There is more, but let me not spoil the surprises.

Where you’ll be

Dibrugarh, Assam, India

The very name of the neighbourhood, Seujpur, means green - Seuj standing for green in Assamese. None of the other luxury hotels in Dibrugarh can match this location as these are in commercial, crowded places. Seujpur is home to the town's intellectuals, doctors, politicians and top businessmen. The road in front takes you across two gardens on either side, as you go for a morning walk right upto the Brahmaputra banks or to Assam Medical College - Northeast India's first medical college. Along the way you will see some pretty Assam type houses. The neighbourhood is also very quiet. My parents were the first-gen settlers here, I being the second. Undoubtedly the most sought after neighbourhood in town, there is a high demand for house on rent here.

I am a travel and lifestyle journalist by profession and a drummer and a machirologist (knife collector) by passion. Chilled-out and friendly, I divide my time between New Delhi (where my family lives) and Dibrugarh (where my mother stays). I had been with several top newspapers (Indian Express, Hindustan Times, Mail Today, etc) and magazines (had been the managing Editor of Harper's Bazaar and Air India inflight magazine) and have travelled extensively across Europe, Asia and Africa. I love parties, world and electronic music and read thrillers. A happy-go-lucky guy you will get along with me easily. Like with most Assamese, hospitality comes naturally to me. I guess that is enough for the time being and should you want to learn more about me, just type my name Nishiraj Baruah on a search engine!

During your stay

Like most Assamese, I am a friendly and soft spoken person who loves to meet different people from around the world. I would like you to enjoy my personal brand of hospitality. But should you rather be alone and be one with nature, well, you shall get all the privacy. My mom who stays downstairs is fantastic at cooking ethnic Assamese and herbal cuisine. She also cooks North Indian. And will feed you to death.
