Get away from it all with a stay in this cozy cottage out in the middle of serene farm land. Cuddle up by the fire with a good book. Take a walk down to the pond. Enjoy spectacular bird watching. An artists and photographers dream. The Dancing Bear Café is closed due to the Pandemic. Enjoy watching the animals in the morning & take in a gorgeous sunset in the evening. Rustic and homey. It's a real farm after all. Your boots will get muddy but the smiles will be sunny.

The space
The Artist's Cottage is a little bit Country and a little bit Rock n Roll. Part of this cozy cottage was once a historic Railroad house. Real working gas fireplace, TV, DVD, DVD’s, radio, games, puzzles, art supplies. Piano. Heated Massage recliner, Fridge, oven, hot plate, Microwave, Coffee Maker, assorted pots and pans. Bedroom has a sound/white noise machine. Bathroom with a small Shower and small hot water heater. Loft with Queen size bed. Bedroom with a double bed. Located on our small working farm. Smack dab in the middle of farmland you really can see for miles and miles. Lots and lots of critters. It's an animal lovers paradise. The cottage even comes with its own resident squirrels who can be noisy ( white noise machine and ear plugs provided). Small deck to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and take in some animal watching. If you’re looking for a shiny hotel stay this probably isn’t for you. If you have allergies, be prepared. The shower is old, missing a knob, with an even smaller hot water heater, but it functions. The sink and stool are older. Some chips, and rust stains. If you’re a lover of long showers be prepared to be disappointed. Lots of animals means they do stuff. Hammie the pig may slime your car after he takes a dip in his mud hole. Peacocks may jump on your car, and they can scratch. Horses may bite, and goats will nibble. During the winter Ladybugs hibernate here. The night skies are breathtaking. The Dancing Bear Cafe remains closed due to the Pandemic however dinner can be ordered in advance of your stay (please order two days prior) and delivered to the cottage from a small menu, and one breakfast comes with your stay. Additional breakfasts and dinners can be ordered ahead of time. Menu sent by request. The Artist’s Cottage is not suitable for children. No smoking or Barbecues anywhere on the property.

I am a west coast native who bought a small farm in the Midwest in 1994. I am a chef and have a wonderful little restaurant called The Dancing Bear Cafe(open Friday and Saturday evenings by reservation) on the property in an old brick chicken hatchery. I have been in business 20 years. I love the peace and tranquility of living out in the middle of nowhere yet close enough to Kansas City for outings. I enjoy cooking and eating great food, laughter, animals, art, music, books, gardening, nature. Although I have had many friends stay in our little cottages this is my first experience on Airbnb. I am excited to share these beautiful spaces.

During your stay

The front of the cottage is about 90 feet from our home. The back side looks out over hundreds of acres of farm land. You can even watch the trains go by way, way, off in the distance and hear the church bells from the little town of Corder on Sunday mornings. This is a working farm. You will see us going about our normal every day chores. Feeding and watering chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and horses, cleaning stalls. Working in the gardens. We have two huge Great Pyrenees working dogs. They bark at night. During the summer the Peacocks scream. Animals poop. We occasionally have mice. You may run into a snake. It's the country after all. Front of the house you may see people wander down to the barns, backside nothing but open fields. We have a second cottage that offers more isolation. Check out The Pond House at The Dancing Bear Farm.
