Our economy priced cottage is inspired by the amazing lakes and fishing spots in Calaveras County. Recreational swimming and cooking trout by a campfire were popular Calaveras activities enjoyed by the earliest arrivals from the gold rush of the 1840's. Building on this tradition (and the fact that we had a bunch of unused fishing decoration from one of our lake properties), we decided to dedicate one of the Murphys Wine Cottages to Lake Tulloch, New Melones, and the various nearby streams.

We offer the lowest prices in downtown Murphys by A LOT, we do this by keeping things basic. These are vintage and rustic cabins that were originally built for motorlodge vacations in days of limited amenities and we keep that tradition going so we can keep the prices low. Each cottage is stocked with fresh towels and linens wine glasses, plates, flatware, and basic cooking needs. The comforters and bedspreads are washed before every visit.

Every stay comes with complimentary coffee, soaps and other hospitality amenities for your enjoyment. Priced well below other lodging in downtown Murphys, we believe you will find this economy to be one of the best deals in town. We feel we offer a 5 star environment based on the price. We do not intend to compete with the high end hotels in town. They do their thing and we do ours.

Murphys Wine Cottages are truly in real downtown Murphys. The units are located just a few feet to Main Street. Tasting rooms, restaurants, coffee, and stores are less than one minute away by foot.

This cottage is in a complex of six cottages on Jones Street in downtown Murphys. This is the first conversion into vacation rental.

With a "Fishing" theme, the cottage is comfortable with a bedroom, bath and living room. The cottage boasts its own private porch, sitting garden, and parking space. The cottage has a small kitchenette with pots, pans, coffee pot, microwave, fridge, linens, and a tv which offers basic complimentary streaming service, you may want to use your Prime or Roku account for premium content. We offer a comfortable cabin that we hope you will enjoy. You are just steps to Alchemy, wine tasting, and restaurants... really!!!!

HOST'S RANT AND DISCLAIMER:

So, it is 2022, and the world is coming back to normal. Sadly, it looks like the jerks are back in full force, too. It isnt just what we have experienced in the last month, I can notice every review website I visit seems to have an uptick of negative comments on every business I have read up on. Just a day ago, someone "took a way a star" from the best restaurant in town because the waitress didnt smile enough. Another great eating spot got dinged because "the glassware wasnt as fancy as the menu items." Let us figure out how to determine if you and this property are a fit so you can be happy with your choice and we can be happy hosting you.

In our experience there are some people who are regularly not a fit with this property. Let us identify some:

-If you are new to the Airbnb scene and are booking because you think the Ritz Carlton should only be $100/night and that Airbnb hosts can provide Ritz experiences at $100 a night because the app has connected you with people who have deeply discounted their weekend mansions on days they arent using it, well, youre going to disappointed. We offer low prices because we want to give the opportunity to stay in the Gold Country the same way my middle earning family did when I was a kid. This is by providing basic amenities and pricing in that rural areas have less resources to quickly recover when we get a gremlin or two... and we get them. We think you will enjoy staying in our quaint little cottages. If you are looking for a low priced old school place to stay while in Murphys then you found it. If you are looking for a luxury experience this is not it.

-This one we have especially noticed at these particular properties: If you have been making progress with your newest dating app conquest and have been laying it on that you are a big shot high roller and thinking that a romantic weekend in Murphys might be just the ticket to "seal the deal" then please only book here if you do not have to explain why the deep pockets you boasted about bottomed out at the cheapest prices in town. We run into conflict with the occasional person who either does not want to pay the prices of premium lodging... or more likely cannot afford to do so but wants the experience anyway. Say it with me... these are basic motor lodge style cabins and we can offer the low prices by offering economy amenities.

-Finally, if you show up on vacations with folded arms and tend to remember your trips by all the complaining you did and the results you got from that complaining then I can guarantee you that we are not going to be a fit. This is especially so if you are the type that pulls out your calculator and note pad to estimate how much money you can ask for to compensate you for every thing that you believe could be better. We are doubly especially not a fit if you are also the type that believes your value in this world is measured by how obnoxious of a comment you can make or how cleverly you can exaggerate a mishap on a review platform. If you believe that the media moguls are aggressively searching for someone to be the next Anthony Bourdain and that you might get the job by your next witty Yelp entry then please stay somewhere else. People probably arent as interested in your comments as you think they are. After recently having a multi message exchange with some disagreeable guest who wasnt as smart as the smart tv she was trying to use, and having her threaten us with a bad review if someone could not show her how to use the remote control, I would just assume give that sort of business to another host or hotel. Long story short, if you are uptight with a chip on your shoulder, economy cottages probably are not the refuge to take you away from your tension.

Dont get me wrong. I have a staff that is spread thin sometimes, very much so when all the units have a turnover the same day and all the outgoing guests want to check out late and all the incoming guests want to check in early. We can, AND DO, make mistakes. Sometimes we need to go back in and correct things. Sometime the mistake or the malfunction is enough that we treat you to a glass of wine or so in town or make another concession. But, 99% of the time, the proper remedy for something wrong is for us to fix it. If you are taking a break in Murphys to recharge your batteries before the MCAT, dont blame our forgetting to restock the coffee on your poor score and ask us to pay for a retest. You might just have to go to Mercer instead of Johns Hopkins and pay for the indignity on your own. Likewise, if the staff had a time crunch between guests and the way they wiped down the bathroom caused them not to notice a hair fell off the towel and into the sink, then the proper remedy is us coming and recleaning the sink- the remedy is not to refund you a sum that amounts to us paying you to stay at the cottage.

So, thanks for reading my rant. Please dont get the impression I am not committed to giving you a great stay. I am in this business because I love hospitality and find that these units provide the best hospitality as economy units. After doing, literally thousands of room nights at the complex, we kind of have a concept of what fits and what doesnt. We stayed pretty full during the pandemic and most people have been grateful to have real downtown lodging at low prices. If this is you, and what you want since the pandemic is over, please book here. I would be grateful to have your business.

I have been in the vacation rental business since 2002 and enjoy providing new experiences to guests and learning how to evolve the properties for their needs.

My career has provided me the good fortune of traveling the entire world and staying at some of the planet's most wonderful locations. I try to bring new ideas from the places I stay and integrate them into my properties.

I plan to launch new properties in Half Moon Bay, Pismo Beach, and Belize by the end of 2019. I appreciate your business and hope to earn repeat bookings.
