The space
The Red Hat takes its name from the alley going from the rue des Ecoles Laîques to the rue du Pila Saint Gely. From the tram station Corum, it is possible to go up the street of Pila Saint Gely to join the street of Aiguillerie towards the Place Jean Jaurés.

In the street of Pila-Saint Gely in n ° 27, is located since 1447 the former "Ostellerie del Capel Roge". This hotel with mullioned windows disappeared around 1900. It was right next to the black bastion that defended the door of Saint Gély pila to the revolution. (After © JP Kempenar - http: //www.montpellier- history.com/pa.../page325/page325.html).

Otherwise called Logis du Chapeau Rouge, its construction began in the 14th century and ended in the late 17th century, between 1638 and 1659. Its master work is not known. The inn or home of the Red Hat occupies the site of several small houses of the 13th or 14th centuries. The hotelier Guillaume Fiquat modernized the ensemble in 1638. The hotelier Jean Campan carried out works in 1659.

In the first courtyard there is a spiral staircase, from which runways lead to the apartments on each floor. Some vestiges remain medieval houses included in the whole.
