The Studio at Painted Turtle Lake Retreat beckons busy creatives & visiting travellers; an intimate countryside oasis with corner windows framing amazing views of woods, lake & golf course. Heated floors & steam shower increase the sense of luxury. It overlooks Painted Turtle Lake, named after the little turtles who sunbathe on our docks in summer. Enjoy our shared beach, fire pit & docks as seasons allow.

The space
Message us to RESERVE YOUR DATES for all booking inquiries AFTER NOVEMBER 1, 2022! We are fully open for bookings, but we are experiencing an Airbnb calendar glitch that is temporarily preventing us from opening our calendar in November and beyond. We are happy to have you choose your dates, sign our contract and we will hold your spot on our end until we can re-open our Airbnb calendar in early November.

The studio is on the main floor of a two-storey guesthouse with a separate loft apartment above, nestled near our home in 5 acres of aspen woods. We keep the space spotlessly clean & sanitized, uncomplicated & cozy; a space for you to breathe and relax. Two parking spaces are available. Guests use their own PRIVATE ENTRY secured with a KEYPAD LOCK.

Guests can cook their own meals in the studio’s FULL KITCHEN or order from area restaurants (see our online Guidebook connected to our Airbnb listing for options). We supply:
- pots, pans and utensils
- local fair trade coffee from Negash Coffee
- black tea
- white sugar, sweetener and coffee whitener
- hot chocolate
- olive oil
- salt & pepper

Our dedicated LAPTOP-FRIENDLY WORKSPACE offers:
- a cell booster
- business-class wifi
- mousepad
- task light

Our 3-piece BATHROOM includes:
- a two-person steam shower with benches
- shampoo, conditioner & soap
- free laundry, detergent and fabric softener

ACCESSIBILITY:
- The steam shower has a tall step up to the shower base so we supply a step-stool for those who need.
- There are no stairs or steps to enter or move around the rest of the studio.

PAINTED TURTLE LAKE is 2 acres in size and nearly 30 feet deep, fed by a network of underground streams. Our acreage has private access to the beach and lakefront (shared between guests, host family, and upstairs tenants), as the entire west shore sits against our yard while the opposite shore borders Quarry Oaks Golf Course.
- In summer guests can sunbathe, canoe, swim or bring your tackle to fish for jackfish in Painted Turtle Lake.
- In winter, bring snowshoes or cross-country skis to enjoy spending time on the golf course grounds (please follow the instructions listed in our House Manual to use their property with respect). We clear a skating rink on the lake in winter when the ice conditions are good.

OUR COMMUNITY
The studio looks over its own corner of the yard; the full yard is shared between guests, host family, and the loft tenants above the studio. You will hear the tenants upstairs somewhat; they keep reasonable hours. You can hear their dog, Hank, trotting around upstairs but he does not bark and goes to bed on his humans’ schedule.

PETS ON THE YARD
- Hank, who lives upstairs, is a black medium sized dog. He is very mild-mannered and doesn’t spend much time outside.
- We also have a large, friendly black & tan dog named Toffee. We keep her on our side of the yard away from the guesthouse so guests can choose whether they would like to meet Toffee or not. Details are sent to guests upon booking; most guests love Toffee but we are also set up for folks who prefer to keep their distance.

NO PET GUESTS (for now)
We are not currently accepting pets, although of course appropriately-trained service animals are always welcome.
- If you like to travel with your pet, feel free to check back at a later date as we look forward to being a pet-friendly destination again once our situation changes.
- When we do accept pets, we will charge a pet fee which covers a deep clean of the studio after each pet guest as a courtesy to future guests who need the safety of a dander-free environment.

With 4 golf courses, an archery range, Sandilands Provincial Forest and the city of Steinbach nearby, there is always somewhere to explore. Check out our online Guidebook connected to our Airbnb listing for a wide range of possible activities! Steinbach is less than 15 minutes away by car; it has ample options for groceries, shopping and restaurants. Be mindful that some retail stores in Steinbach may be closed on Sundays.

Labroquerie has a lovely, accessible walking path about 10 minutes away, and Sandilands Forest offers a large network of trails only 20 minutes from Painted Turtle Lake. We recommend the AllTrails app to find local hikes; message us and Lisa can share her favourites through the app.

During the golfing off-season we are also permitted to enjoy walking our neighbouring Quarry Oaks Golf Course (some restrictions apply).
