One of our 3 ‘Stylish Fife Holiday Lets’ - No55 is a ‘boutique' home set in the heart of a small quaint Fife conservation fishing village. In a ‘get away from it all’ location but just a short drive to Edinburgh, the East Neuk and St Andrews.

The space
No55 is stylish and comfy. A real home from home. Here’s what you might want to ask...

Q: Where is No55 located?

No55 is located in the very heart of a traditional Fife fishing village. Set on the Main Street the living area has views of the traditional pantiled houses found in this Conservation village. The beach & sea front are just a 1 minute walk away. In fact you can often hear the waves & sound of sea in the garden & bedrooms. Please note that the house itself doesn’t have sea views. Cross the street & walk through an archway and tah dah! There’s your sea view!

Q: How many people does No55 sleep?

A: No55 is absolutely ideal for 4 but can comfortably accommodate an extra guest. Perfect if someone is joining you for a few days.

There’s a single fold down bed available to an extra guest & this can comfortably be used in either bedroom. Bedding & towels for an extra guest are also provided.

Q: What’s the living area like?

A: The living room has a brand new wood burning stove for cosy winter nights (kindling and kiln dried logs are provided for your first few fires). There’s a comfy sofa and 2 ridiculously comfortable armchairs. The collection of pictures you can see on the wall are original 1940’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover illustrations...people always ask!!

Q: Where can we eat?

A: There is a fabulous large dining table which seats 6 guests. You can also sit & do a big jigsaw here!

Q: Are there enough things to entertain us?

A: No55 is fully stocked with lots of books, jigsaws and board games for rainy or just relaxing days. It's an old fashioned seaside 'get away from it all home'. It’s in a small peaceful fishing village (just 2 streets). You’ll really feel as if you have stepped back in time...where else can you go for a beach stroll to look at the seals after dinner?

There’s a large TV with all the usual freeview channels & Netflix too! There's also Marshall speakers for you to hook up to your Iphone/smart phone.

There’s unlimited free Wi-fi for your use, which is usually fast enough for Netflix & streaming but certainly not for 5 or 6 devices all doing stuff at the same time!
This is a small village which doesn’t have Fibre yet - so you can expect 10MB - 13MB as an average.

The house, because of the very thick walls has a weak mobile signal. Your best bet is WhatsApp, FaceTime etc to call from within the house or you can turn on WiFi calling.

Q: What about the kitchen?

A: It has a small but perfectly formed kitchen. It is well stocked with all the kitchen equipment you might need (you can even bake a cake) and has washing machine, small fridge, oven & a new microwave. Tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt, pepper & other pantry goods are always provided for you.

Q: Is there somewhere I can work?

A: Upstairs No55 has a really handy little 'study' area on the landing with mahogany desk & chair so you can comfortably work at a laptop.

Q: What about the bedrooms?

A: The main bedroom is a beautiful deep blue 'grown up' double bedroom with small grandfather wardrobe, chest of drawers and lloyd loom bedside tables for storage. It’s a restful & quite romantic room.

Q: What about the 2nd bedroom?

A: The ‘yellow’ twin room has 2 single dormitory style beds and a large upholstered chest of drawers. There are bedside tables with lovely fisherman’s lanterns for bedtime reading. There are also wall pegs for hanging extra items of clothes.

Q: Is there a bath or shower?

A: There is a sunny bathroom with an over the bath shower. Shampoo & soap are both provided along with towels. There’s also another WC on the ground floor.

Q: What about outside space?

A: There’s a fully enclosed landscaped courtyard. In summer it’s a sun trap & full of butterflies & bees. Please note that the garden & also the main entrance gate to No55 is shared with a self contained guest annexe at the other side of the garden (The Wall House). The bedrooms of No55 look out onto the garden. There’s lots of space and lots of privacy for both properties. Please be mindful of & friendly to any guests in The Wall House. See photos.

Q: Do you welcome children?

A: Children are very welcome! If you are travelling with them please let me know their ages so that I can make No55 ready for them too.

Young children are provided with plastic cups & plates, colouring in books, toys etc. There are also children’s story books too.

Q: Why would we want to go anywhere else?!

A: You wouldn’t!!

Where you’ll be

West Wemyss , Scotland, United Kingdom

The village and surrounding area is a haven for wildlife, including a resident seal colony. Gannets and arctic terns from the Bass Rock can be viewed feeding around West Wemyss in the summer months and dolphins are also frequent visitors. The beautiful Fife Coastal Path runs through West Wemyss, keen walkers can take on the continuous 117 miles across the sandy shores and coastal pathways or can just walk smaller sections of it! Details of the Fife Costal Walk can be found in a guest folder in the flat along with lots of other walking suggestions.

There are of course a huge number of local golf courses in the area in addition to the multitude of courses at St Andrews, the home of golf.

The nearby harbour of Dysart is within walking distance and was used in the filming of Outlander. There is a Harbour Masters house in Dysart where you'll find soup and a sandwich, lots of information about Outlander and also the Coastal Walk.

West Wemyss has a community run pub which is open 3 nights a week. Do come in. We're all very friendly and it's a good way to find out about life in the village. Occasionally there's live music and often there's a domino competition!

There's also a small cafe in West Wemyss serving coffee and cake and hot food which is open Thursday - Sunday . You are guaranteed a warm welcome.
You'll also find a small heritage centre in the village and Tam who works there will be overjoyed to tell you about the rich history of the local area...not to mention the famous Wemyss caves.

I love welcoming guests to this lovely corner of Scotland. In my past I travelled all over the world and even lived in Russia for 11 years. These days I’m very much settled in Scotland & when I’m not cleaning & ironing for my 3 holiday lets I love hill walking - any time I get the chance! Being set on the Fife coastal path I love my daily beach walks, collecting beach pottery & seal watching. I love creating beautiful, comfortable & welcoming spaces for visitors & I want all my guests to have a very special holiday experience in Fife, Scotland.
