The space

This is last century's renovated traditional farm - in a vast serene nature reserve - our second home in rural Iceland. Site of outstanding natural beauty, grass fields, meadows and small trees planted. 4 hrs drive from Reykjavik city. Off the beaten track - still by the main road through Iceland - close to Akureyri. Breathtaking views of the mountains and enscarpments.

Four guests is the default maximum number of guests - but we also accept larger groups on a case-by-case basis, see below, renting the whole house.

This peaceful place offers:
Extraordinary views to the mountains in all directions. Secluded tranquility. A guest's quote: "Bulcolicly situated quaint farmhouse" and a Lonely Planet quote: "One of the most picturesque valleys in Iceland".

The traditional farmhouse - Icelandic style - is built in the 50'. We offer you two bedrooms on the ground floor which come with luxury mattresses and warm duvets plus linen: one large master bedroom with huge king size quality bed and extraordinary views, one with twin bed easily changed to double bed; comfortable living room adjacent to master bedroom, Icelandic art and selection of books; and a renovated bathroom with bathtub/shower.

The minimalist rustic design kitchen is super-equipped and boosts in-floor heating, large dining area, great views and a fire place. Five burner gas-stove, double oven, super-sized sink, double dish washer, large fridge, micro wave, mixer, expresso machine, mocha pot, coffee grinder etc. etc.

This is a place and surroundings full of character, culture and history - to be discovered by our guests. We have let this place out from time to time for many years and exchanged with great pleasure with loads of guests from all over the world. Some come again - and again.

The house comes with bedding, linens and towels, see House Rules for conditions. Cleaning fees apply, according to arrangement with guest.

There is a separate attic apt that may be rented out or occupied by the family - and a couple of other small spaces. Apart from this you are in no-mans-land and kilometers to the closest neighbors and 10 km valley of total serenity. Please note that you may see other guests or us around, and we do expect all guests to respect the quiet atmosphere we have created here.

ADDITIONAL SPACE OPTION
#1 If you need additional space - for up to eight people (or even 12 if including the small studios we have made in our barns, see #2 below) - you may be able to opt for renting these and the whole house, including the upper level with one additional bedroom and one additional bathroom with shower. The upper floor and the studios can occasionally be rented out together with the main accommodation for additional space for families and friends. Upper floor has one separate bedroom with two beds (110/120x190 cm), bathroom with shower and a large living room.

#2 The two studios next to the house are 14 m2 and can accommodate two guests each, with two separate bathrooms and kitchenettes.

A community thermal pool with panoramic views 10 min drive away, open until late night during summer.

People who come here love the nature, the serene tranquility, the remoteness - its 2 km to the next farm - yet to be close to the highway, the mainroad between the south and the north, and only 30 km from the vibrant Akureyri for culinary experience and doing daytrips to the major attractions of the north: Dettifoss, Mývatn, Húsavík or Dalvík-Siglufjörður-Skagafjörður circle.

Great hiking area at the doorstep, literally. This place comes with a private waterfall(!), and a few of them, and a whole valley of serenity.

Trout fishing in river Hörgá, one of the best in Iceland.

The place has hosted a couple of Icelandic country summer weddings - arranged outdoor/indoor with party tents put up by the terrace/in the romantic birch tree grove next to the house.

You can use the house as a base for exploring North Iceland or just to be able to switch off and relax. You can go hiking and enjoying the untouched nature away from high tech devices, or just sit on the porch and admire the extraordinary views or maybe read about the admired Icelandic poet and naturalist who was born here 200 years ago and made this landscape part of his immortal work, now translated into English.

Hi, we are Sif and Oli, a couple of well travelled professionals.

Yes ;) we absolutely LOVE to travel. We have exchanged homes all over the world for the last decade, and we are not nearly there yet ;) We cherish the philosophy of exchanging homes with people that can teach you something about the world and yourself. We have met most of our guest and try to do so whenever we have the opportunity. Some of our guests have visited multiple times and many of them have become our friends.

We have four grown up kids and our work is in Europe and in Africa. We are nature lovers and we think its important to protect the environment. We do all kinds of outdoor activities, recently mostly sailing.

We will be happy to have you at our very special place in the north of Iceland. We have lived in Iceland, Belgium, Spain, Rwanda, Botswana and France but we also travel for work. Now, when kids have left home, we might travel even more, work and pleasure.

When you arrive, we will meet and greet you or, alternatively arrange for key delivery via phone when we are not around. So we need to speak with you in person. We need your phone number while in Iceland.

Detailed driving directions provided to you by email in due time before your arrival and when you have communicated to us the estimated time of arrival and from where you will be arriving.

Please read carefully the House Rules on this listing. You are expected to take care of the final cleaning. Alternatively, cleaning fee applies. Regardless, all guests are expected to leave the house tidy, dirty linen by the washing machine and to treat our second home as their own.
