The Herdsman House is on Treaty 1 Land, land that was also denied the Metis people in the 1870s. It is where the village cow herder lived and is set in rural surroundings in Neubergthal, a c. 1876 Mennonite street village and national historic site in south-central Manitoba, Canada.
Enjoy the warmth of the wood fired Russian Bake Heater, try your hand at baking bread or pizza, and take a stroll in the pasture and village among the Russian Cottonwoods.

Located 1 hour south of Winnipeg.

The space
This unique cottage style Herdsman house will take you back in time, and boasts an old world feel. This is the real deal and not a museum or a new building made to look old. Restored to it's original, the handpainted floors are the original patterns painted by the women in the house, a Russian Bake Heater ( rebuild by Parks Canada) for heating and baking bread, and many more features. The 2 bedrooms are spacious with a wardrobe closet and a writing desk in each room. The main living area and kitchenette are fully equiped for all your cooking needs, and curiosity.
Enjoy your own private space which includes a firepit, and flower garden.

I am a visual artist who has been actively involved in the restoration and presentation of Mennonite housebarns in the village of Neubergthal , a c.1876 Mennonite Street Village and National Historic Site. Presently I am actively involved in the research and documentation, and creative expression of my female ancestors who hand painted decorative floors. They are recorded on functional floor cloths and can be found on my website (Website hidden by Airbnb) If you are an emerging or professional artist of various disciplines feel free to check out the artist residence rates on my website.
