The space
Janaki's forest retreat is a lovely village home restored with care by my mother-in-law. It includes 3 bedrooms with fans, 2 bathrooms with rainwater showers, a large veranda overlooking the garden and scenic views, sitting room, dining room, pantry, and kitchen, along with driver's quarters. Situated at the end of Hewainna village, the house borders the Kalatuwawa Forest Reserve, offering 500+ acres for hiking and exploring.

In addition to the Kalatuwawa Forest Reserve, you can visit the Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanical Gardens, the ruins of King Rajasinhe's palace and tomb, or take a walk down the road to a beautiful natural pool where the locals come to bathe and swim. Janaki's Forest Retreat is literally at the end of the road, but there's a small shop and post office just before the entrance for essentials.
