Hummingbird is a beautiful well equipped hillside studio apartment nestled between the rainforest and the beach. 3 minutes from the sea. It has a fantastic big shaded deck, brilliant for birdwatching. Birdlife around the house is first class. Spacious, bright and private with a new modern shower room, air conditioning, wi fi and satellite tv.

The space
Our home is unique. We originally built it as our 'home from home'. We decided to make our entire top level a studio apartment to accommodate couple and solo travellers. It is fully air conditioned - essential for many guests in this climate! The shower room has a power shower, the kitchen is well equipped - with a microwave and large fridge. There is a comfortable sofa and satellite tv and strong wi fi through-out. The outside deck is a lovely place to sit - large and comfortable with great seating. It is fully covered and shaded - so even when the tropical rain comes you can stay outside. It looks onto natural rainforest terrain and you are likely to see the same variety of birds here then in the forest itself.

Although more visitors are coming to the village - it is still really authentic. This is not a resort. There are no polished hotels here. There are lots of little rum bars and cafes and two great natural bars on the two main beaches. There are African drumming nights and village BBQ's where locals welcome visitors. Food shopping is limited - so best to stock up, although you can buy great fish and fresh fruit in the village.

Hello everyone. I'm Selvin Douglas and grew up all my younger life in Castara, a wonderful village full of friends and family. I now live in the UK, in Glasgow Scotland - but return to the Caribbean with my family every year. I just spent 10 weeks there renovating the house which I built around 12 years ago. It was build with lots of hard work, respect for the land and respect for all my friend - I could not have done it without them. I am passionate about my village of Castara - the fantastic birds, rainforest animals, beaches and natural, wonderful landscapes. But most of all I love my people and hope you can share in our wonderful lives.

During your stay

We can arrange transfer to and from the airport - a 45 minute drive. We'll always give you the cost in advance and you can pay the driver locally. We have a housekeeper who will change sheets after 4 days and we have a local manager to contact if you need anything else. We are always available by email
